Just read about the death of Australia's Jack Brabham. He was a 3 time F1 world champion, the last title being actually won in a Brabham. He was the only person to win an F1 title in a car bearing his own name.

I noticed this news also but I didnt pay much attention to it - nevertheless, while on the F1 website got a change of heart when I looked up his name ...
WOW !!! What a racing legacy he leaves behind, racing with likes of all these other F1WC since 1950 - Nino Farina, Juan Manuel Fangio, Mike Hawthorn, Phil Hill, John Surtees, Jim Clark, Denny Hulme, Graham Hill, Jochen Rindt plus up & coming Jackie Stewart and even with Mario Andretti, when he retired in 1970 ...
Great reasons for him to be knighted right ..!

Sir Jack was an amazing man. One of the fastest in F1, he survived some of the most dangerous times. Glad you're looking up and learning about these drivers of an earlier era Luke.

Guessing you are back safely from up the islands ..? Sure you had a great time
because I looked at some youtube vids of Lewis & Ken in racing mode - seeing those huge crowds of people in the stands looking on at the track action (Lewis & Ken doing 'donuts' in their F1 and Rally cars) and having a great time too.
About Sir J. Brabham ~ Steve's topic here along with seeing the same news on TV, helped me to go on the F1 website 'Hall of Fame' link. The info with the 3 years (59,60 & 66) Sir Jack won was very very interesting and to see his name just keep popping up (before & after wins) with all those Champs and other racing greats was so unbelievable ... He raced for 2 decades (such a long time 1950-1970) doing well with every year and with you saying the dangers of racing back then - you 're right. He was an amazing man !!!
Also - Yes, I am reading 'bout those other F1 guys and with that - it was such a treacherous sport (more so) back then...
So much so - A man like A. Ascari (1952/53 F1WC) who was so deeply devoted to his family & was once asked why he didn't demonstrate his affection. He said, "I prefer to treat them the hard way because I don't want them to love me too much. They will suffer less if one of these days I am killed."
Personally, Thanks but no thanks - I for one, would have (stayed home and) let those guys knock themselves out.

During my car racing years we had many Brabhams race in the Caribbean. The first one I saw and touched was Andrew Cheekes' (I believe it was a BT28). Others that I can remember who raced Brabhams here included Frankie Boodram, Richard Knox and Francis Ottley, although there were probably more.
Sir Jack left a real legacy worldwide which will not be soon forgotten.
