Hi Guys,

Scalextric has release this neat little new Mini in British Racing Green and white which will be perfect for our Historic Saloon class:

Back in the '60s when my interest in racing was born and right up through the '70s when I raced 1/1 cars myself, Minis were very dominant on the race tracks of the day. I've raced against many in the past. Here's a shot of one race in Guyana in 1977 with me in the Escort on pole and local hero Terry Angoy's Mini on my outside:

Two more white Minis are behind me.

As a young boy I had visions of driving a British Racing Green mini much like the Scaley one along a winding, tree-lined, wet British country road early on a Sunday morning. This car takes me back to those fond memories.

This car would make a great addition to the grid but...where are the guys to race the cars ? My MGB, slow as it is, is itching for a little race !

Ok, I'll have to confess that I ordered this as soon as it was shown on SlotForum on Wednesday! Lovely little thing. Had to have it although I already have my class of 6 Minis (3 Italian Jobs, Rally, Flower Power, Police Car). When I get them all together I'll post a pic. I've had a soft spot for the little buggers since I first set eyes on them at Wallerfield, summer 1979. Our own GG may well have been in that race also!

Anyone remember that the original Mini had sliding front windows and no interior door handle ? It had a cord connected to the locking mechanism !!

GG - In your vision, are you telling us "in other words" that you plan to acquire this green mini for your FRC "country road" circuit :D or is story to intimidate your 1/32 slotcar racers' with your 1/1 glory days' :D because in the racing photo, it looks as if you linedup that escort perfect "in & out" for the corner to take the lead with the red mini going too wide ~ do you remember if you did get the lead :?:

More than likely Ray. That was the heyday of my 1/1 racing days. Here's another shot of me around that timeframe driving a different Escort against a Mini, this time at Wallerfield:

I do, but then I'm probably the oldest one here, so I should have seen them (and did) :D
