Possible new track layout options for FRC

Guys,

I'm toying with the idea of changing the FRC track layout to something a bit different and have come up with the following two options so far. Let me know what you think about changing it and which of these you prefer (ignore the lane changers... I have to think them out more carefully). Remember, the start/finish straight (top of each diagram) is where we currently have it on the open side of the garage.

hi gordon,
the idea of a new track layout is refreshing..option two looks to be a more challenging track whereas option one is a faster track..im liking both even the current one at frc is still worthy...maybe we can have a track change every six month and experience all the versions...take care see you soon.

I think option 2 is better, but i dont like how either of them have three straight lines running around the perimeter. I think there needs to be some sort of subtle turn like you have right after the front straight currently. If not then it will basically become a drag race. That and you need to have double changes on the inner section

LOVE the passing lane in the last two options, would love it coming out of a corner at the start of the longest straight and coming back in at the corner at the end of the straight.

I have an option that I would print and bring next race day.

Nice Gordon, but check your inside lane. If you start on the inside and do not switch just after the first turn you would be stuck in that lane up to and just before the start/finish straight.

I can't seem to get the track I designed to upload so I will brig it next race night. Not the track, just the print version......duh !!!

Alex,

I see what you mean about the inside lane. That can be corrected either by adding a straight cross-over LC (I added one to my copy of the diagram just as you enter the straight after the 3-lane back straight) or by changing one of the corner LCs to do the reverse of what its doing.

I see you loaded the image. Interesting layout. Is it to scale for a 12' x 8' table like FRC's? What software did you use to design it?
