I thought I'd mention that I currently know of three Mod Prod cars that have been prepared and are waiting for their first race. The first is, of course, Brent's Escort, running a 30,000 RPM FF motor. The other two are my Mini Cooper with 24,000 RPM Slot.It Boxer motor and Zoë's Audi TT, currently with a Slot.It 21,500 RPM (I'm sure she'll let me race it ). I may upgrade the motor to something quicker but for now its ready to test.
The TT actually presented a bit of a problem to set up. The original rear magnet position is against the class rules (its behind the front of the rear tyres) so I had to remove it and do something else to get what I hope will be the correct downforce. Its 100% legal now though!
So, how many of you have started building a car for the class? In case you're not sure what car bodies qualify, think in terms of cars that average people buy for the road ("production" cars), but not the exotic ones ("GT" cars). Following are some examples:
- MGB
- Ford Escort
- Ford Cortina
- Classic BMC Mini Cooper
- BMW Mini
- Holden Torana
- Subaru Impreza
- Peugeot 307
- Ford Focus
- Ford Fiesta
- Audi TT
- Nissan 350Z
- Fiat Cinquecento
- Volkswagen Beetle
- Seat Leon
- BMW 320Si
- BMW M3
- Ford Mustang
- Chevy Camaro
- ...etc.
Lets see how many are ready by the next FRC event. You can see the class rules here.
