New F1 car in progress

Between work on Saturday, grandchildren who came to visit for the weekend and watching the recorded F1 race after they left, I only got to start working on my cars for this week's racing at around 5 PM yesterday afternoon. The last car I worked on was my new F1 project car, having received various parts I had ordered for it last week. Here's what my busy workbench looks like when putting together a brand new car comprising components from multiple different manufacturers:

There's more stuff spread out below the table surface too. Its amazing the number of little things that have to be tried and modified to get it all to work and this is the prototype/initial configuration. I'll still have to tune it and make changes and adjustments as we start racing with the new regs next year. Components so far include parts made by:
  • AllSlotCar
    Sloting Plus
    Slot.It
    SVQ Slot
    Shapeways (Olifer)
    Quick Slicks
    Scaleauto
    Piranha
    Professor Motor
    Slot Car Corner
I haven't chipped it as yet but it will probably be a Scalextric F1 chip, adding another manufacturer to the list. Here's a close-up of it as I packed up after 9 PM last night:

The car complies with the regs I proposed here. I hope to have it running for Thursday to test.

Looking good Gordon. I'm anxious to find out how it runs. By the way, I think you have the rear spoiler mounted back-to-front.

Just looked at the wing again and you're right! I must have been tired last night :D

Gordon,

You sound very excited getting to work on your new F1 test project slotcar ... Its all interesting and impressive seeing what you're doing here and to this day - it's a passion you carry since I know you :-)

Although I'm not that enthusiastic (again) setting up or tuning slotcars - I'm thinking with the regs for this new F1 class ...

The car will most likely run well with room for improvement (if needed) for better lap times but wondering how it will do - withstanding front and rear impacts or even an unfortunate drive-through.

Yes, these type slotcars may be better off than the traditional Scalextric F1 cars but it's still something that will have to be considered.

Suppose it's a situation - one will just have to wait and see what happens ...
