After going over my cars for the upcoming HS, APC and VS3075 races later this week, I decided to do a little study for comparison sake. I took Magnet Marshal downforce and weight readings of the cars then came up with a value for each car's MM reading divided by its weight. I really thought that the figures would be similar for each class, but found that they varied significantly:
I hope to be able to fill in the final column (Lap Time) after testing and qualifying this Thursday. There are of course other factors like motor specs, gearing, tyres, etc. that affect lap times, but it'll still be interesting to see what - if any - pattern emerges with the MM / Weight and lap times.
Magnet Marshal readings for some of my cars
Re: Magnet Marshal readings for some of my cars
I wonder if checking front and rear weights and MM readings for the same will explain the variance?
Re: Magnet Marshal readings for some of my cars
I remember at some time in the past, we actually had in place (or were thinking of putting into place) a measure for allowable downforce being a multiple of the cars weight. I have a notebook from early 2014 with a bunch of readings taken of weight and Magnet Marshal downforce. Some of these are as follows:
Car Class(back then) Weight(g) Downforce(g)
MGB HS 68 168
BMW 2002 " 101 175
Toyota 88C SC 76 278
Ford GT40 VS 73 211
Peugeot 406 Rally 93 4
Porsche 908 VS 91 327
Ferrari F430 GT 100 532
Cheetah VS 85 401
