As promised, here's some additional information on the new proposed American Pony Car class for 2017:

Class rules:

American Pony Car (APC)
For slot models of American "Pony Cars” that took place in the Trans-Am series between 1966 and 1972 - see Eligible Cars below.
  • Body: Must be modeled after American "Pony Cars” that took place in the Trans-Am series 1966-1972 (see eligible cars below). Fender modifications not allowed. Wheels and tyres must not be visible when viewing body from above. Must comply with General item 2. Windows may not be tinted - interior must be visible.
  • Chassis: Original for the particular model, but may be modified provided guide flag position and axle positions remain unaltered.
  • Interior: Full interior as standard for the particular model, however this may be altered if necessary, but only to the extent required to install digital chip. Must comply with General item 3.
  • Digital Chip: Free.
  • Motor: Any motor not exceeding 21,500 RPM, based on manufacturer's specifications.
  • Gearing: Standard axle gear for the particular model. Pinion gear may be changed.
  • Motor Pod (where applicable): Standard for the particular model.
  • Magnets: USD rule. All magnets must be positioned ahead of centreline of the distance between guide flag pivot point and rear axle (see diagram below).
  • Wheels: Standard for the particular model.
  • Axles: Standard for the particular model.
  • Tyres: Type of tyre is free. Front tyre minimum diameter: 17mm on wheel. Rear tyre minimum diameter: 19mm on wheel.
  • Guide Flag: Free.

Eligible cars:

Commercially available slot car models of the following Trans Am cars (1966 to 1972 models only):
  • Ford Mustang
  • Chevorlet Camaro
  • AMC Javelin
  • Mercury Cougar
  • Plymouth Barracuda
  • Pontiac Firebird
  • Dodge Challenger
  • Dodge Dart
  • Chevrolet Nova
Explanation: This class replaces American Muscle. The specs keep it more in line with the relative performance of the cars of the Trans Am 1966-1972 period it represents.

Point System:

Points will be awarded to both the driver and to the manufacturer of the real car upon which the model is based. Driver points will be the same as currently exists for all classes:

Manufacturer points will be based on the same table above, however the points will be divided by the number of manufacturers in the race. For example, if there are 6 cars in the race and the winning driver gets 9 points, the winning manufacturer will get 9 points if there is only one car by that manufacturer in the race. If there are two cars by that manufacturer in the race, the winning manufacturer will get 9 ÷ 2 = 4.5 points.

Hello All,

That's a lot of (attention to detail) info Gordon :shock: 8-)

All the same - as interesting as this new APC class is looking plus replacing AM racing. This additional info concerning the rules ... is somewhat a bit different. Now other than the replacement (when looking over in detail) it's not really that difficult to get a grip on and know big or major changes was actually done with FRC 14 racing events ~ Here's what I mean with the sections listed below.

The only number of changes made was a total of 4 ... Two in the non-IROC and two more in IROC classes.

Knowing how things are normally done in 2016. The asterisk symbol * is pointing out this process for 2017.

Hope you don't mind Gordon how the IROC are under the non-IROC ones because it's the order they are normally raced. Only if you are planning to race these type classes first next year :?:

What's also very easy to alter "flexible" with these 5 groups ... If any IROC event isn't raced for whatever reason - it may be rotated to the next group ... and so on and so on ;)

Sure you'll understand what I mean.

Interesting looking rules Gordon. The method of calculation of Manufacturer's Points is quite clear. I'm looking forward to confirmation of these rules so I can organize a test mule.

Steve, as far as I am concerned and with the discussions we've had about this, I believe it's time to build some cars and test them. I'm looking at converting my Mod Prod Mustang Notchback to these specs. Possibly will have it ready by next event.

Oh by the way, from next year, besides the discontinuation of our American Muscle class, these pony cars will no longer be allowed in our Historic Saloon and Modified Production classes. American Pony Car is the only class they will be eligible for.
