Modified chip tested

Post by gordon »

Hi Guys,

At Saturday's event we took the opportunity to test the first Greg Myers-modded chip to see just what to expect. Luke came up with the suggestion that we try one of Greg's modified Saloon DPR chip in one of his new Ferrari Challenge cars and Steve offered a standard one out of his beautiful new MGB as a baseline in the Ferrari. I had the privilege of trying it out first and let me say that I immediately felt a difference from what I'd expect of a stock 18K motor. This was confirmed when we put the stock chip in, the car feeling as you'd expect a stock Scaley Ferrari to feel.

After a few others drove the car with the modded chip, we were all in agreement that its performance is similar to if it was running at least a Slot.It 21,500 motor or something slightly quicker. Bottom line is the chips do deliver on their promise (at least the Saloon DPR that we tested does).

Now we have to try the other types of chips and we are yet to test any with higher RPM motors. As mentioned previously, there's no way to tell the difference in the appearance of the stock and modified chips, so out goes any regulation limiting them to specific classes.

Gordon,
the deal, as I understand with the chips, is that you can get a blown (or functioning one for that matter) chip modified at a price of US $ 12.00 or supply 4 blown ones and receive, in return, 1 modified one. How much does it cost to purchase one outright if you don't have a blown one available to be sent ? I for one, would like to get a Scaley F1 outright and also would like to send a Scaley DPR saloon (working) to be modified.

Gordon,

I spoke to Steve early this morning and was so surprised when he told me about all this info you have posted... I had know idea both the standard & modified DPRs was under testing right under my nose. I thought it was only the the Mod/DPR ~ maybe its because (I dont know if you noticed) I was to busy helping David install his Mod/Slot It Chip you gave him on race night for his new Slot It GT McLaren. Though we had nothing and the time to test and compare it to, the lap times (if you noticed) wasn't bad at all from the get go - 5.5xx average FRC LMP times. The only thing we found not to be to good was the car had a little to much downforce and some adjustments needed to be done with the motor being to low in its motor mount.

David was so happy with the performance of his new and number two SlotIt car... That it just went right back into his garage for the night.

Heres to Greg,Ray & Gordon pushing that frc envelop...

Gordon,

I was wondering what chip differences you had been able to spot! The only thing I saw on 1 or 2 of mine was where the solder bead on some diodes seemed slightly bigger. Nothing at all that would make a scrutineer's little black heart sing "GOTCHA!!!"

I've scribed all my modded DPR's with "GM" in the corner, so I know which cars have them installed. The solder-in chips? I 'm just making notes. Once installed, you can't tell until you hit the throttle! We'll come up with a plan I'm sure. Maybe get Greg to tint his LEDs red????!!!

Hey Luke! Which Slot.It McLaren did Boo get? Was it the RAW like the one you worked on for me? I'm still trying to find just the right tires to give that and the NSR Mosler the lift their dragging motor pods need....
Best,
Ray
