GP Formula

Post by gordon »

Guys, we've been discussing the problems with the fragility of the F1 cars that we run at FRC for some time now. As a start towards moving away from them, I've gone ahead and ordered one replacement option that a few of us have looked at, the AllSlotCar GP Formula generic F1 car, combined with Sloting Plus' aluminium chassis for them. Bodies will always have breakable parts, but this chassis will go a long way towards providing a much stronger open-wheel class.

I had a chance to start putting my car together this weekend. There are some issues but basically, this looks to me like an attractive and viable option for a more robust open-wheel class. For those who do not want to go this way, we can run both the current F1 and this new GP Formula classes (separately, of course).

Here are some pics:

I'm proposing the following rules for the class:

Class Name: GP Formula
For AllSlotCar GP Formula cars with the following specifications:

• Body: AllSlotCar body (must be painted - no unpainted bodies allowed. We want this class to have cars that look like real F1 cars).
• Chassis: Sloting Plus GP Formula aluminium chassis.
• Interior: At least shelf and driver head required. Must comply with General item 3.
• Digital Chip: Free.
• Motor: All Slot Car 22K motor (Part No AS001). We can instead allow any FK130 up to 22,000 RPM.
• Gearing: Free.
• Magnets: USD rule.
• Wheels: All Slot Car front and rear GP aluminum evo wheels. We can allow alternative wheels however they must be of F1 dimensions.
• Axles: Free.
• Tyres: All Slot Car GP front and rear tyres. We can allow alternative tyres however they must be of F1 dimensions.
• Guide Flag: Free.

These are suggestions which we can refine after doing some tests.

Thanks for mentioning my name under the F1 Ferrari No.5 car GG and good going with your McLaren "Vodafone" Mercedes car.

Looks like you won a prize - if one (be it whatever) was to be awarded for the first person purchasing this type/brand 132 car.

Some research (here) shows this is your 3rd. post concerning this topic/subject - ALLSLOTCAR GP Formula/F1 cars.

The first was (back then) under NEWS - 10/2012, the second under RACING - 11/2015 ...
... and now back to NEWS - December 2015.

That being all said and as usual, some well established pics introducing this class of open wheel racing at FRC ...

I for one will be happy to support this (already done by you) project as time goes by and your list of rules looking already - G2G !!!

This certainly looks like an interesting proposal. I'd like to have an idea though, about what the total cost of putting one of these cars together would be.

Steve, until the final specs/regs are decided, we won't know the final cost, however you can get an idea from these prices of the various parts at Pendle.

Sloting Plus Aluminium Chassis: £18.10
AllSlotCar Painted Body: £35.00
AllSlotCar Front Tyres (4): £4.50
AllSlotCar Rear Tyres (4): £4.50
AllSlotCar Front Wheels (2): £9.50
AllSlotCar Rear Wheels (2): £9.50
AllSlotCar AS001 22K Motor: £11.00
AllSlotCar Guide Flag: £3.25

Any 3/32 axles can be used as well as virtually any crown gear. In fact, several guide flags, wheels and tyres (F1 type) and motors can probably be used. The final regs will determine this.

Hey GG,

You forgot out the most important component ... for a better idea with price.

The SSD Chip ;)

Which means this F1 brand car could reach as much as £100.00+ from PSR UK ENT :?:

One might not be thinking about TYRES here but the RECESSION situation.

GG,

Top of the day to you ...

Going over the pics in detail (especially the top one because of chassis) from body to guide pin and all introducing this class of open wheel 132 car racing ...

I came up with this complete list of (even more) branded components and further pricing close to £115.00 in total for ...

Chassis / Body / Digital Chip / Motor / Gearing / Magnets / Wheels / Axles / Tyres / Guide Flag

  • • Sloting Plus Aluminium Chassis ..................... £18.10
    • AllSlotCar Painted Body ............................... £35.00
    • Scalextric SSD Digital Chip .......................... £12.00
    • AllSlotCar AS001 22K Motor ........................ £11.00
    • SlotIt Gearing - Crown (1) .......................... £04.06
    • SlotIt Gearing - Pinions (2) ......................... £02.47
    • Sloting Plus Bearings (Flange Type ..?) ........ £05.40
    • SlotIt Magnet (Bar Type) ........................... £02.26
    • AllSlotCar Front Wheels (2) ........................ £09.50
    • AllSlotCar Rear Wheels (2) ......................... £09.50
    • SlotIt Axles (2) ........................................ £02.03
    • AllSlotCar Front Tyres (4) .......................... £04.50
    • AllSlotCar Rear Tyres (4) ........................... £04.50
    • AllSlotCar Guide Flag ................................. £03.25
How dose this checklist look for any person ordering all in time for 2016 racing at FRC ..?

BTW GG - would it be A-Okay for you do a view below your sprucely built looking ASC McLaren GPF car or do we have to wait until next year @ FRC .. :?: :D

Luke,

That's a fair estimate, however for everyone's information, the body includes driver compartment (shelf), driver head, camera, stickers for the steering wheel and yellow tyre markings and possibly one or two other items. The chassis includes the rear axle bearings (I did not know this and ended up buying a separate pair) and the motor includes an 8T brass pinion. The front and rear wings are removable and there's a body parts kit which includes wings, driver head, mirrors, etc. for £7.50 if you ever need them. There's also a plain white body kit for £18.00 for those who don't mind painting their own car (no plain white cars allowed in the class) and a sticker kit for £11.50 (optional if you're doing your own paint job). BTW, the painted version comes as pictured - no body stickers necessary.

I'll post a pic of the chassis underside when I get the chance, however its basically the same as the top of the chassis.
