Re: CHECKERED FLAG Restaurant & Lounge ~ SCALEXTRIC TRACK...
Interesting.Did anyone from FRC attend ? Is this setup just for patrons of the bar to have fun or is there going to be actual racing ? I note that there is no restriction on type of car but will the bar lend cars to those without ?
Re: CHECKERED FLAG Restaurant & Lounge ~ SCALEXTRIC TRACK...
Steve,
The answer to your first question is... Yes ~ It was Kerwin and myself.
We left POS about 1:45PM and reached SANDO around 2:45PM... It was kind of early because C/FLAG wasn't even open for business. I made a phone call to Mr. Arden - who was very happy to hear that we could make it and told me for us to wait right there. What ever he did after that (and to my surprise) had the place buzzing/hopping with workers within 15 minuites.
The 6 Lane Analogue Track had to be assembled but dont worry, its not what you are thinking... The actual track was pre-built on 3 separate boards to join together and rest on tables - it was all put together in half hour. When the power was applied to the track and all 6 throttle positions was taken up with persons & their cars, they had them (all type 1/32 cars) going around the track at some impressive speeds.
The atmosphere was very relaxed and a well mixed crowd of adults and their children. The use of the track is FREE and anyone (young and not so young) can partake in the racing with their own cars or club cars. This Sunday Race Day was Opening Day and it all went GREAT but had to leave around 8:00PM to get back to POS at a reasonable hour for work the next day.
Arden made a joke of us leaving so early in the night:
"All yuh TOWN BOYS doing like yuh need to catch a plane to go home."
From what I understand ~ Arden has alot of support, fantastic and interesting plans for this impressive track at his business place and his ideas will just develop naturally with time...
On a positive note and happy to let you know ~ These 2 FRC boys (Kerwin and Luke) got the job for installing the Scalextric PC Race Management System @ CHECKERED FLAG Rest. & Lounge Track.
How does that sound for starters..?
You and the Family should check it out next time around.
Luke

So Luke, how come Kerwin can't make it to FRC yet he can go way down south on a Sunday?
