Our first TruSpeed controller is here!

Post by gordon »

Hi Guys,

Check this out:

Image

Its a TruSpeed digital controller which I ordered a couple of weeks ago from the UK to test at FRC. I collected it from TT Post today and I must say, it feels SWEET! And that's just holding it in my hand and squeezing the trigger. I can't wait to test it out this Thursday and for everyone to try it and give some feedback. The small black thing in the plastic bag is a second, longer trigger (which comes free with the controller). Its basically for those that prefer to use two fingers on the trigger, or simply find that it works better for them. There's a strip along the top where each controller can be colour-coded with special stickers available from TruSpeed. This one came with a green sticker pre-applied.

Steve at TruSpeed kindly waived the £12 shipping fee as he wants to get exposure through FRC for our region. Its not cheap, but I suspect that once we try it we'll want five more :) Cost of the controller is £48 + £12 shipping to T'dad, a total of £60 or about TT$600. I also had to pay TT$225 in duties and VAT, so that comes to TT$825 for one controller. I know that the shipping will be less per unit if we order the remaining five all at once, so we'll have to raise the funds to try to do it like that, assuming we decide to go that way.

Check out their website to learn more about their controllers and accessories:

Guys,

If we get 6 more each one will cost 40-GBP that way we will have one spare. I will contribute $600TT

I did not see a specification for the throttle resistance, is it 35ohms or 15ohms, the higher RPM motors will perform significantly better at 15ohms, and will not burn out as easily as the 65ohms throttles we use now. I am looking forward to giving the new throttle a test run.

Will the break be activated, if so it will add another dimension to the driving experience, which would be very interesting.

GG ~ I know this was an idea you always had in the pipeline for awhile now and look how nice and easy you started it.

Looks like you could have done it sooner because of the supportive $$$ strength you are receiving :D

I would like to say I can too but these days have to much (bills) on the plate atm...

Yes, the new controller do cost a pretty penny and I am sure you took these 6 safety item into consideration.

Good point Luke. I knew at I'd need holders for the TruSpeed controllers, but hadn't worked it out. Just did a search and saw the same ones you linked to at HotSlots over at Slot Car Corner, who probably make them. They also have the bracket we'll need to attach them to the table:

Of course if we can find/make something here at a lower cost that would be best.

Hello Steve H.

Great to know you are on board & welcome to the FRC Forum... My name is Luke T. and I have been racing @ FRC for 4+ straight years. I always enjoy the racing & can safely boast how many times I haven't raced here on one hand :D

I had a go with the new type SSD racing TS controller and found (right away) the trigger feel & overall weight was excellent.

The only thing I noticed very different though - the trigger's "racing curve" was a bit different to what im used to but was informed by Gordon that this could be changed to our liking.

All in all its a great product and my only concern is its protection from hitting the floor. I suppose those 6 throttle holders from HS132 or Slot Car Coner will come in handy after all.
