How many times did we race each opponent in last NSS races?

Hi Guys,

Ramesh asked me to perform an exercise to see how many times a given driver would race against every other driver using our new IROC format for races with more than six drivers, and to see how this applied to the last NSS races based on qualifying grid positions versus the actual grid positions pulled from a hat.

Well, after trying to work it out logically and writing a program to produce the results, I gave up (for the time being) and just set it up in a spreadsheet. I actually set it up for 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 drivers and the results are interesting. Before going into the specifics, the results show that each driver will race against the others the following number of times:

For 7 drivers each races against every other 5 times.
For 8 drivers each races against some 4 times, some 5 times.
For 9 drivers each races against some 3 times, some 4 times, some 5 times.
For 10 drivers each races against some twice, some 3 times, some 4 times, some 5 times.
For 11 drivers each races against some once, some twice, some 3 times, some 4 times, some 5 times.
For 12 drivers each races against some once, some twice, some 3 times, some 4 times, some 5 times and some not at all.

Following is the specific information Ramesh requested. The top chart is based on how we qualified, the lower chart on how we actually set up the grid based on pulling numbers.

Interesting stuff.

:o WOW GG - what a double whammy of well drafted & explained graphs with qualifying and drawn numbers 8-)

It's great when you post this sort of informative info because it helps a lot with 132 racing productivity.

The thing that is most notable (for me and anyone else for that matter) with both sets of numbers - the numbers are remaining the same no matter what but with the drivers ...

The drivers names after all the racing - is just a matter of who goes up or down the list of competing names.
  • 1. 3/6. Gordon ............................ up 2 -------- up 5
    2. 2/7. Steve .............................. same ------- up 5
    3. 1/3. Ramesh ........................... down 2 ---- same
    4. 4/8. Jon ................................. same ------- up 4
    5. 5/10. Luke ............................. same ------- up 5
    6. 6/1. Alex ................................ same ------ down 5
    7. 9/5. Arden .............................. up 2 ------- down 2
    8. 7/2. Paul ................................ down 1 ---- down 6
    9. 8/9. David (boo) ..................... down 1 ---- same
    10. 10/4. Gary ........................... same ------ down 6
See how the results are looking (above) with both qualifying/drawn numbers with competitors.

The question is ... to do or not to do with qualifying times or pulling numbers :)

Here's another way watching results :)

The way, the one on the right looks - its a bit more exciting or maybe even both together ...
  • 1. 3/6. Gordon ............................ ^ 2 ------- ^ 5
    2. 2/7. Steve .............................. < 0 ------- ^ 5
    3. 1/3. Ramesh ........................... v 2 ------- < 0
    4. 4/8. Jon ................................. < 0 ------- ^ 4
    5. 5/10. Luke ............................. < 0 ------- ^ 5
    6. 6/1. Alex ................................ < 0 ------- v 5
    7. 9/5. Arden .............................. ^ 2 ------- v 2
    8. 7/2. Paul ................................. v 1 ------- v 6
    9. 8/9. David (boo) ...................... v 1 ------- < 0
    10. 10/4. Gary ............................ < 0 ------- v 6
Although, the right side (alone) does look very interesting with more downs & ups for a winner ;)
