Checking your cars for the 2015 "upside down" rule

Guys,

To ensure that you check your MP and RGT cars correctly for the new "upside down" 2015 rule, here's what you need to do:

1. To perform the test, we'll be using the same half-track section that is used for the 45° test. This track section is reinforced by using three strips of wood glued to the bottom of the track to prevent it from flexing, even under the stress of a magnet-equipped car. I suggest that you do something similar with the track section you plan to use for checking your own cars. Remember that it must be Scalextric Sport track.
2. To check a car, first place it in the slot on the track section right side up and ensure that the car is centered along the track rails.
3. Next, while holding the car in place, flip the track section upside down at eye level and ensure that it is horizontal.
4. Finally, release your hold on the car (but keep your hand ready to catch it). If the car sticks to the track, you need to decrease the downforce.

Once your cars don't stick to the track, they have passed this requirement.

These guidelines with the new "upside down" 2015 rule - sounds very useful/helpful for any (johnny-come-lately) newcomer and far less for any of the (red carpet) regular guys.

Ever since I have been building/testing my slot cars for any amount of down force in this way - I have always been using this track section listed below.

• • Scalextric Sport Track - C7016 Half Straight 175mm (single lane) @ $3.25 US each

Note - I don't believe there's a meter for this sort of reading - so its all done Free Hand ...

Now mind you - this track piece isn't so flexible at all. Suppose its because its half the size - compared to this track section listed below ...

• • Scalextric Sport Track - C8207 Half Straight 175mm (double lane) @ $5.50 US each

You mentioned that this track piece needs to be supported and its also used for the 45° test in Rally Car class.

That being said, I also remember Arden making a point that a gearing ratio (set-up) can hold back a slotcar @ 45° which is still left to be seen ent Arden

Anyway, I mentioned/wrote all this because I believe a slotcar could cling long enough (yet not be much) to a track piece USD more than another ... slotcar.

Sure you know this phrase "the devil's in the details" which stands for a word of caution about minding the details.

Suggestion:

Here's a slight change in blue with your number 4 point ...

• 4. Finally, release your hold on the car (but keep your hand ready to catch it). If the car sticks to the track after a slight shake of the wrist, you need to decrease the downforce.

This suggestion sounds reasonable Luke. Of course, "the devil is in the details" can also apply to the phrase "slight shake"

I say we see how it pans out next week with and without the "slight shake" applied and then see what the consensus of the drivers is.

Maybe FRC could invest in a portable Richter meter and the shake could be limited to , say 6 (as applied by the driver of the car), with an allowance of say
+ or - 7%.

Imagine all this start with a slight shake ... wonder if I had suggested much shaking - what would have happen then there boy ..?

Nonetheless - I believe some people just like and know how to go out their way being difficult but so be it.

Hope I don't need to define "so be it" because its easy and no one or FRC or both will need to invest in a dictionary.

So sorry to say - just telling it like it is because some people just like Plain Talk - Bad Manners ent ...

I must thank you (here) for your apology but must let you know, after all was said and done ... I gave it a little more thought early in the A.M - that you may have been having a rough day and my suggestion could have ticked you off or tipped your scale for whatever reason. Nonetheless - it did sound like you got up-set with my "slight shake" suggestion but know this is not like you because its not what to say but how you say it - which I know you will support.

Now mind you - if your reply was done by another person (lets just say - I may not be fond of) I would have not replied the way I did or not at all and just move on because I knew what I meant by the slight shake ...

BTW - midday today I saw Steve getting into his car on the Avenue and came close enough to say hello plus ask if he have a Richter scale in the car by chance hehe.
