Racing this Thursday 11th December
Posted: Tue Dec 09, 2014 1:48 pm
Hi Guys,
FRC will be open for practice, testing and racing from 7:30 PM this Thursday (11th December) for our final scheduled event for 2014. You don't need to bring any cars as we'll be racing our new Vintage Sports IROC (VSIROC) class. As mentioned before, this new class features six unique cars from the '60s (no two are the same), running a variety of chassis, motors, gear ratios, wheel sizes, tyres, etc. They are of varying weights and specific calculated downforce (maximum downforce cannot exceed 3.5 times the car's weight). In tests they all do similar lap times of around 6.4 sec, so the racing should be close. We're also racing them without A and B subgroups. Instead here's how this particular event will be run (this example assumes that there will be 12 drivers):

Remember that our events start no later than 8:30PM sharp. Here's the usual schedule:
Ice Brigade: Luke B (of course!)
Reality Checks
Vintage Sports IROC - These are pictures of the actual cars that the slot cars we'll be racing are modelled after.
Shelby Cobra Daytona - 1964 24 Hours of Le Mans (GT class win, fourth overall, Dan Gurney/Bob Bondurant)
Lola T70 - Mark Donohue at Pacific Raceways, July 18, 1967, United States Road Racing Championship round 6.
Ferrari 330 P4 - 1967 Le Mans 24 Hours, driven by Richard Attwood and Piers Courage
Ford GT40 - 1966 Le Mans 24 Hours, driven by Mark Donohue and Paul Hawkins
Ferrari 275P - 1964 Sebring 12 Hours winner, driven by Mike Parkes and Umberto Maglioli
Ford MkIV - 1967 Le Mans 24 Hours., driven by Mario Andretti and Lucien Bianchi. Ran as high as second place before being crashed by Andretti in the esses due to a right front brake caliper locking up 12 hours into the 24 hour race.
Chaparral 2A - US Road Racing Championship, Bridgehampton, 1965. Driven from pole to second place by Hap Sharp.
Shelby Cobra - Modern replica.
See you on the circuit...

- All drivers will qualify the same car.
- The top three qualifiers and 7th, 8th and 9th will drive the first six heats, each driver driving each car.
- The 4th, 5th and 6th qualifiers and 10th, 11th and 12th will drive the next six heats, each driver driving each car.
- The final six races will comprise the drivers placing in the first three positions in the two groups of heats, based on accumulated points. Again, each driver will drive each car.
- Heat races will be over 15-20 laps, final races over 20-25 laps (we'll finalise this on race night).
