Hi Guys,

FRC will be open for practice, testing and racing from 7:30 PM this Thursday (11th September) for our new Group B classes, Historic Saloon - 3 races @ 25 laps, Vintage Sports - 3 races @ 25 laps, Group 5 Sports Cars - 3 races @ 25 laps. For those of you without a car set up specifically for G5SC, we will be allowing any VS car to run in G5SC provided that it retains the legal VS motor and complies with the 200gm downforce rule. To comply with the latter may just require installing slightly taller rear tyres, so bring along any extra tyres you may have that will fit. Remember that our events now start no later than 8:30PM sharp. Here's the schedule:
  • Free practice and testing up to 8:30 PM
  • 8:30 PM SHARP - Qualifying followed by racing. Drivers not ready when called to grid will be replaced by any standby drivers who are ready.
  • Winning cars will be checked for compliance with the regulations after the last race for each class (excluding IROC classes)
  • After racing - Packing up and liming/old talk (but not too late!).
You can see all the class regulations here and the general racing regulations here.

Here are the specific Historic Saloon, Vintage Sports and Group 5 Sports Car class regs (blue text indicates any changes for 2014):

Nice looking pics indeed but the Ferrari (thinking it is - in middle shot) hitting that apex did it for me because just looking at that right rear wheel ~ seeing lots of kinetic energy ;)

I have a question though GG ... and feel it needs an answer :D

This morning I thought about the VS cars racing in the G5SC class ...

Interestingly enough, as cool as its sounding and making it happen this Thursday - thinking now that the G5SC cars could race in the VS class too .. :?:

Luke, that would be a Porsche Carrera 6 (or Porsche 906).

Well that would not be accurate historically. During the '60s, the G5SC cars did not exist, whereas, as I already explained, in the early years of the real G5SC, several '60s cars competed with them. As an example of '60s cars racing in G5SC, check out the cars that raced at the 1970 Daytona 24 hrs (look at the non-finishers too):

http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1970_24_Hours_of_Daytona

There's even a Porsche 906 there.

GG - Oh shocks man ! :">

See how I could have lost money ... I wasn't to sure what type car it was but suppose I outguessed myself because of that Shell logo & somehow the back looks (somewhat) like a 250 GTO and to the middle of the car like a Ferrari P4 ... Should have picked up on those same kinetic energy looking rims though - It was a giveaway because I strongly believe Ferrari don't use those type of steel rims on their cars. At least from photos I have seen of them.

Don't want to be wrong again here but wondering now what type of car is in the 3rd. pic ..? What I could say for sure though - about that car in 3rd. pic - is those wide rear tyres, looking just like the ones I have on my - G5SC Ferrari 512 model :)

Would you believe with that G5 in VS class question ... I worked out the answer during the day (while in traffic) just as you wrote here, of course not in such detail (thanks all the same) but realized the 60s cars met the 70s cars. It couldn't be the 70s met the 60s ~ correct  8-)

Anyway must let you know - got my cars (1 HS - 2 VS & 1 G5) ready this evening and not for tomorrow evening instead, like how I normally rush home and do ...

God willing - see you & others tomorrow.

Luke

Glad you got your cars ready. I myself worked on 12 cars over the past week to prepare for today :)
