RACE REPORT #168 - July 24th 2014

Just six drivers were present to race our Historic Saloon (HS) and Vintage Sports (VS) classes, but that did not prevent some action-packed racing, especially in HS.

Steve qualified his Mustang Notchback on pole for its first ever official FRC event while Luke B put his Ford GT40 in the top qualifying spot in VS. Wins in HS were shared between Luke B, Ramesh and Steve, but the real story of these races was the group of all six cars doing several laps nose-to-tale in both lanes during one of the races in a show of extremely close racing. This is how the our races should always be - tight bunches of cars and really exciting. At the end of the night just three championship points separated the first three drivers.

In VS it was a typical Luke B walkover, from taking pole to winning every race in a show of total domination. His points tally for the class was almost double that of the second placed driver.

See you on the circuit...

This event was well described by Ramesh but there was something that he may have forgot to mention & it was very (other than new guy Roger) noticeable by all ...

We started racing late and finished early ... 8-)

Thanks again to GG for lending (sponsoring) me some of his other (set-up) HS and VS cars ... because he sure noticed how my (already set-up HS & VS) cars wont handling for competitive racing speeds. We also know this phrase - driving for the other man, in front, behind & all around us ... and with that I promised to keep his cars safe from any sort of damages but it was a bit difficult/pointless at times with cars coming from the back. I think I did a great job nevertheless but it seems some of us may need to do some sort of reaction, fitness or even an eye test before races. Also, kind of remembered him saying that the cars wont that competitive with the other front runners (lap times) but I did enjoy racing and found them both too be well built slot cars.

BTW - The only 'front runner' I believe I didnt do well with - was parking in the front gateway ... I have a feeling a nice big bright red and white (No Parking - This Space is Reserved) sign would be a great help for others because of the activity on race nights.

Although - No hard feeling okay :)

I really enjoyed the night's racing, despite the low driver turnout. Thanks to Roger for his marshalling-was much appreciated. Thanks as usual to Gordon for hosting and getting the race report out so soon. Congrats to Luke B. on his wins in both classes and on overall win.
Looking forward to the next event.
