LMP-E/GT-E endurance event proposal

Hi Guys,

Following up on our successful 2-hour race and inspired by the currently running Le Mans 24 hour race in France, I've come up with a suggestion for yet another variation on racing at FRC, a LMP-E/GT-E endurance event. Here are the main points:
  • We will introduce two new special classes for this event and both will run concurrently - LMP-E and GT-E based on real cars that raced from 1982 onwards (Group C onwards).
  • LMP-E - Up to 25000 RPM motor; 300 gm downforce
  • GT-E - Up to 20000 RPM motor; 200 gm downforce
  • 1-hr race length, 2 drivers per car.
  • Both drivers must drive; minimum of 3 driver changes.
  • Fastest 3 cars in each category will race (3 LMP, 3 GT); B-subgroup for slower qualifiers.
  • Overall and separate results for each class
  • Same drivers can drive in the B-Subgroup but not in the same class.
So, let's hear your thoughts.

Gordon

300 gm downforce in LMP-E may be too much. Perhaps 250 GM would be better. We will also require a 1 mm minimum ground clearance under any magnets.

GG - This type race sounding even more exciting than the last special event.

Yes, sure more details will need to be worked out but my first thought - how would LMP & GT drivers be determined ..?

Through qualifying Luke. Everyone present can qualify an LMP and a GT car. Fastest three LMP qualifiers and fastest three GT qualifiers that are not already qualified for LMP will race in group A. I have a diagram illustrating this but it's in my laptop and I'm typing this on my iPad. Will post it when next on the laptop.

Here's how it will work Luke. Effectively the same drivers can drive in subgroup B, but not in the same class they drove in subgroup A (follow the team colours and driver letters):

Good Morning Gordon,

First of all - Happy Father's Day to you and all the other FRC Fathers ...

Clearly, your explanation with this new LMP & GT drives - anyone reading can understand and the diagram without a doubt will hold plenty of the guys attention.

Lets wait and see how many of the other guys will be happy to take part ... and you can count me in now.

Gordon,

I must say that the endurance race was really a great meeting.
I do like the idea of other endurance races, however we are only ending up with 3 or 4 teams. That is fine by me, but a completely new class means time and money. I fine it difficult to work on one car far more two cars. I really don't know where the time goes it just goes.
Can you look at cars that already prepped for other classes and use those for an endurance race. I am saying this because the time we spend at FRC is enjoyable and we do like the company, however we are neglecting our track and building another car means less time for TSCC.

Sounds interesting but I would still need to think out the details. I like the proposed car regulations (fast but not too much magnetic downforce) but think that it would be a bit difficult to put together 2 cars with completely new specs. for this one-off event.

Hello Arden & Steve,

Why the negativity ..?

I think you'll making a mountain out of a molehill ... Remember the 2-hrs. grid was almost filled with 6 teams & for whatever reason - guys/teams didn't show.

Anyway - agreed time is short and nobody said go spend more money, stop seeing about TSCC or that this event is in two weeks time :)

Dont we all have these type LMP/GT cars in our collection already, plus with spear parts "like that" coming out our ears and nose. hehe

Here's a positive way to look at this (Gordon's) suggestion for yet another variation on racing @ FRC.

Clearly putting our ideas together for this new event to be convenient for all with date/time, will help for the next FRC Special Day.

Indeed it will most likely turn out all entertaining again.
