RACE REPORT #157 - February 20th 2014

Another good turnout of ten drivers took to the track for our Lambo Series and Restricted GT class races. LS was split into subgroups A and B of five drivers each, based on qualifying results. Steve outdid everyone to take pole in group A while Alex was quickest of the group B qualifiers. In RGT, Luke B. again worked his magic to take pole and set a new class lap record of 5.088 sec, driving a Porsche 911 GT1 prepared by master-builder dad Ramesh.

Racing in both LS groups was one of the closest on record. In group B, wins were shared by Luke, Alex and Ramesh. Even young Jonathan's return to FRC after many months' absence resulted in two third places. When the points were tallied, two drivers shared top points with third place being just two points down. Group A was no different, this time with four drivers sharing the wins. In this case the winner and second place being separated by a single point scored for getting pole in qualifying.

RGT was another story. Luke B. switched cars then switched again, causing him to start two races from the back of the grid, but this did not seem to hamper his progress much. Joining him amongst the front runners were Ramesh and Arden whose MP4 12C really got going, getting down to high 5 sec laps just before the races started. At the other end of the field, Luke retired his Evora after two races showed that it is not yet a competitive runner. Final results included yet another tie, but not for the top of the winner's rostrum, a place reserved for Luke B.

2014 Overall Class Points Update





Looking at the points tally for the year, things are really close in LS, the first six drivers being just four points apart and a three-place tie for the most points. In RGT, there's a tie for second between south boys Ramesh and Arden. It will be interesting to see where the points stand after the next round of these classes.

Next event's classes: We're taking a break for the next two weeks because of the Carnival celebrations, so you have a lot of time to prepare for our class grouping G: Group 5 Sports Car - 5 races @ 30 laps, F1 - 5 races @ 40 laps. As usual, don't forget to see the updated fastest times for the FRC classes to know what the benchmarks are for your cars, the updated class average qualifying times and the updated 2014 Class Points Standings.

Yep... its a long one and like I making up for all the reports I didnt write on

Sorry had to leave without helping put away things but did tell you earlier how muscle-bound I was feeling from badminton the night before... It was only getting worst too when I realized how difficult it was walking back up drive-way after racing. Anyway - didnt play Friday night and feeling much better atm. Talked to Arden Friday lunch time and he said they (all south boys) stayed back and helped. Told him it was very nice of them and when you think of it now, they might as well because they doing nice in everything else too

You always do very neat race reports but see that the grid positions in Group B. is somewhat not looking correct. When you look at numbering sequence after each race, you will see what I mean. Not making it an issue but just thought should let you know. What I'm having an issue with is trying to keep those Bhola boys in group B. racing, off my back. Yes, its exciting racing against them but do they have to be so close... in points..?

Example: First place (group B.) positions R/Report #153 ~ Luke B. & Luke 27 points and now R/Report #157 Ramesh & Luke 25 points

Just kidding here okay (south boy) guys plus know and glad you'll liking yourself @ FRC

My real issue though should be RGT because didnt start off to well in 2014 defending my 2013 most points hehe

On a separate note - would like to make a Suggestion for IROC classes and not taking away how good anyone of us can race slot cars.

We have established 5 IROC classes and implemented rules/regs for many racing scenarios... In doing so we have done a great job with the levels of entertainment & fairness for all racing competitors. There's one procedure that came about very nicely in which, taking into consideration the 6 cars used - that all tyres be cleaned (before or after each race) by any person/s in one location...

Adding to this entertainment - here's the racing suggestion:

Persons wanting to get a racing "handling" feel (for more of a better word - practise) with the cars in any of the IROC events... On the racing grid - this "practise" should be done with only one car of their choice and in the Mixed GT event with three cars of their choice because of the 3 type cars (Porsche, Ferrari & Lambo) raced.

Hope all will understand here because i will have to draw a picture

Luke, I've just adjusted things to show each driver's grid position relative to each other driver. This gives a more accurate Index of Performance result.

Great racing as usual in all classes lots of keen comp. congrats in order for Arden i see him really putting in some well deserved time and its showing by his results . I am sure the rest of guys will continue putting pressure on us to do our best at all times, great driving by Gordon and Steve, to have such a close battle in the lambo class, i am sorry that Luke T did not get his Evora working at this time, but we appreciate his efforts bye for now see you all in two weeks , Ramesh

You will continue putting pressure on the guys to do their best at all times

Another great night of racing. That Lambo class was particularly keen, with 3 drivers scoring 25 points each ! RGT was a walk-over by Luke B. but only on seeing the race report did I see how close the 2nd place battle was. Sorry I couldn't help out with the packing up but I gather that the South Boys provided the necessary assistance.
Looking forward to the next event.

Luke, a good suggestion, but how do we police it?

As for me, quite often I get minimum or no practice with the IROC cars because of administrative matters so it's of little concern to me.

My point exactly GG,

Minimum or no practice for others (for whatever reason) and administrative matters you do well for us all to enjoy race nights - so if its a rule or even an understanding, no one needs to police anything if you think about it... It will be very noticable by others if one is practising with more than one car or even more than 3 in the (Mixed GT) IROC classes.

I believe Luke meant choose the car to qualify before and do not put it in the pit. Only when qualifying is up bring the car out to the track. This way nobody has an advantage, since the car was not driven by any competitor.

Also with regards to Championship Points, we have two groups, but one Grouping. Is this how the points will be recorded?. If this is correct someone from Group B can be Crowned Champion Driver.
