RACE REPORT #154 - January 23rd 2014
Eight drivers ensured that we'd have full grids for our first pair of quick classes for 2014, Modified Production (MP) and American Muscle (AM). Of course this meant that 5th and sixth place in each race would cycle out for the 7th and 8th drivers, so each driver's qualifying and race results were particularly important.
Ramesh took pole with his Porsche Boxster in MP and it was looking like Luke B. would have it in AM by driving his Camaro one-thousandth of a second quicker than my Boss Mustang's time, but it was not to be. After successive de-slots in his first two timed laps, Arden stole pole with a super-quick time of 4.261 sec on his Camaro's last lap, breaking the long-held lap record set by Dougie way back in May of 2011. Dougie, you now have to come back and re-claim your title!
In the second MP race we saw the first of a few implementations of the new 2014 stipulation that if a driver switches to a different car, it must start at the back of the pack when Luke B. parked his Porsche Boxster and drove Ramesh's neat and extremely quick little MG Metro from the second race on. This little car went on to dominate the races with Steve's challenges in his BMW 320i being the best of the rest. There was however some close racing, with ongoing battles throughout the field.
Racing in AM was also close with wins by my Boss Mustang and Luke B's Camaro, but also with good runs by the Camaros of both Ramesh and Luke T. Unfortunately, Arden's wiked-fast Camaro was a non-starter when a damaged chassis prevented his rear axle from staying in place.
The results
Congratulations to the winners.
2014 Overall Class Points Update
Next event's classes: Mini Challenge IROC - 6 races @ 20 laps, Rally Car - 5 five-lap stages per car (1 car at a time). As usual, don't forget to see the updated fastest times for the FRC classes to know what the benchmarks are for your cars, the updated class average qualifying times and the updated 2014 Class Points Standings.
See you on the circuit...
