RACE REPORT #141 - SEPTEMBER 12TH 2013

Seven drivers arrived to see who would be victorious in our Historic Saloon, Vintage Sports and Group 5 Sports Cars classes which represent cars from 1960 to 1975. This period was very formative in my racing years as it covers the period from a short while before my interest in racing began, right up to when I was very active in driving real racing cars. It is a group of classes that I always enjoy at FRC. That said, one of the special requirements for the VS class on this occasion was that each driver would have to drive a completely different car (body type and different chassis) in the final two of the five class races.

In HS, my Escort managed to qualify on pole and was leading from the start of the first race when it's pinion began to spin on the motor shaft, forcing its retirement. A close fight for first place between Luke B. and Boo ensued from then up to the fourth race, when Boo's Escort suffered a similar fate as mine.

VS was hotly contested and having to drive a different model car for the final two races made for some interesting on-track battles, mixing up the results and points in the process. It gave me an opportunity to run several cars that would not normally be raced as I also loaned a few to drivers who were in need of a second car to comply with the rule.

Four Alpha 33/3s comprised the grid for the three G5SC races. For the first time in this class team Bhola had some serious competition in the form of Steve who was able to run up at the front and battle for the championship.

At the end of the event we tested our first TruSpeed controller and found it to have a far superior feel to the Scalextric digital throttles. We do feel that the standard wiper element board installed will need to be replaced by a more linear one for a more progressive response. TruSpeed make three standard boards with different curves and they are even willing to even do a custom board for us, if necessary. Steve Hills of TruSpeed has been very responsive and is our newest FRC forum member. Feel free to put any questions directly to him on the forum. They also make analogue controllers which I'm sure are of the same standard as their digital controllers. South boys take note.

GG - I noticed south boys did take note @ your 6.439 Q/Time, which was almost a whole second faster than 2nd. in the HS class.

You did a great job ruffling south, I mean some feathers at this event :D

Steve A.

I see you came fourth (as you wanted) in HS class and look at that, by just 1 point over me. Hope this makes you happy (climbing the corporate/racing ladder) @ FRC and that you are leading with 2 points in overall 2013 champ/points.

:?: I am wondering since Thursday night - Did someone read out the HS racing positions on the PB for Gordon to write on the CB :?:

Great night of racing (as usual) at FRC. Thanks Gordon ! Thanks also to Ramesh and Luke B. for providing us with those delicious 'cutters' . I really enjoy these classes although, as the results show, my success in HS and VS leaves something to be desired ! Congrats on that lap record in HS Gordon, and to Luke B. on the class and overall wins !
Looking forward to the next event.
Steve

Yes... congrats Luke on winning all the classes, Champion Driver and Index of Performance. The only thing you left for the others was a few race wins!

Luke, as with all the races on Thursday, I personally read the PowerBase results and transcribed them to the clipboard sheet. Steve was not involved. If there was an error it was mine. The only thing Steve did was corroborate what I wrote.

Sorry if there was an error.

Hi to all competitors that were there on thur especially Boo and Arden ,for making the races that more exciting, when i see Boo turning his body and not neck only i cant imagine the dis comfort, he was the champion of that night for me because thur race night is slot car fun until next wk . I did take note of GG and Boo's quick escorts and have alerted our engineering dept as how their rear suspension worked giving their cars very good handling, congrats to their teck department for their efforts were noted. Steve alfa surprised me , and i can see it being good comp.good driving steve, Luke T was at the short end of crashes but such a driving force and always an encouragement every race night. Luke and i may not be racing for the next couple of weeks due to travel , my best regards to all bye Ramesh

Ramesh, love the comments and very graciously said too. I also love your spirit and your competitiveness (although you could do with a bit less of the latter as far as I am concerned :)). We'll miss you and Luke while you're away, especially the level you two push us to. Have a great trip.
