RACE REPORT #124 - APRIL 25th 2013

We tried a new thing for our 124th event, mixing our IROC GT cars - Porsche 997s, Ferrari F430s and Lambo Gallardos - for a new type of racing which I dubbed "Mixed GT" (MGT). It ran under the standard IROC format where the cars were each set to a specific controller and drivers cycled to a different controller/car for each of the six races. The difference was that at each controller drivers had a choice of each type of car, however each car type could only be driven twice. Sounds convoluted but it was fun with everyone trying different strategies.

Just four drivers stayed on for the rally stages where a new first-time rally champion was crowned.

Everyone agreed that the MGT experiment was successful, adding a new twist and challenge to our IROC racing.

Congratulations to the winners.

Next event's classes: To be announced shortly. Don't forget to see the updated fastest times for the FRC classes to know what the benchmarks are for your cars. Also of interest are the updated class average qualifying times.

See you on the circuit...

Another great night of racing at FRC ! Gordon, that mixed GT idea made for some fantastic racing (and very close results). Note that the Lambos won 4 out of the 6 races. My worst results were with the Porsches. I really need to get a better handle on these.
As usual the rally class was a lot of fun. Guys really improving their game here. I remember when we first started this class, most of the times for the 5 lap stage were over a minute. At this event, the slowest time was Jonathan's 59 seconds, this after he stopped on completion of the 4th lap, thinking that he completed the course, then realized that he had not and had to continue. Both Luke and I have broken into the 50 second range now, wth Luke doing 1 scorcher in the 49s with his well sorted Corolla. Gordon's Impreza continues to improve and is quite spectacular to watch. Jonathan's driving is also very entertaining and quick. With a bit more practice with his Citroen Xsara, he'll be a force to reckon with. My Jonathan-sponsored Citroen C4 continues to be quite competitive. Congratulations Luke, on winning the Rally Class !
Looking forward to the next event .
