Final event for 2012 and a new type of race

Post by gordon »

Hi Guys,

I know I've been very silent here on the forum for quite some time. Most of you are aware that this is because of the time and effort I've had to put into the move to my new business location, including opening of a proper retail store for my company Right Enterprises. Well as the year winds down and things begin to be a bit more settled after the move, despite the busy Christmas season, I'm beginning to turn my mind back towards our favourite hobby. With this in mind, following are two topics i'm proposing for us to discuss.

Our next and final event for 2012

I'd like to host FRC's final 2012 event between Boxing Day (a Wednesday) and Old Year's Day (the following Monday). I'm not sure about the Sunday, so we're looking at the the Thursday, Friday or Saturday. Chatting about the event with Alex, Luke and Steve last Thursday (a race day that never came off because of low driver turnout), we're thinking of a family-oriented event (starting mid-afternoon preferably), with races for the kids and adult kids (us), along with a bit of a "cook up". So here's where I'd like everyone's input, primarily to finalise a date and the food part, and secondarily to throw out ideas for the type of races you'd like to have. Which leads us to my second topic...

Forced-retirement Race

This is basically what is more commonly known as a "devil take the hindmost" race, but I prefer the how "forced-retirement" sounds ;) . Here's how it works for a 30-lap example. Six cars start and its a normal race up to the 9th lap of the lead car. At the end of the 10th lap, the last-placed car is forced to retire. The same applies to the 15th, 20th and 25th laps with the remaining two cars running the last five laps to the finish. So, there you go, a "forced-retirement" race. What do you think?

So please let everyone know in the poll above which day you'd like to do the 2012 finale and give us your ideas about the type of races and classes we can run. And don't forget to comment on the "forced-retirement" idea. Please post all responses to this forum topic.

Hi Gordon, nice to see you on the Forum again. I quite like the idea of the 'forced-retirement' race but we'd need to decide which class (or classes ?) we'd run in this format. Another race that might be fun would be a rally car race. I really love the single car rally stage events but to see a few of the cars racing around at the same time would be entertaining I think. Would need serious marshalling though ! Another idea for a race would be for cars that don't fit into a current FRC category, such as your Slot.it Alfa Romeo 33/3. Cars could be grouped according to qualifying times . As the event should be longer in duration than the regular one, maybe we could include the HS and Porsche Cup races which weren't run at the last gathering. As far as the food goes, I'll give it some more thought and get back to you. My choice for date would be Thursday 27th. Pity that Jonathan would not be able to make this event as he'll be away.

Still only 3 people voted ? My choice was for Thursday but if another day would be more suitable to others, I would gladly change .
