Proposed new class groupings and race structure

Hi Guys,

I've been thinking of how we can further improve everyone's experience at FRC events and collaborating on this with the wise one, my long-time slot racing buddy O'Brie. One of the problems we've noticed is that there often is not sufficient time for everyone to complete all races or classes. Sometimes we run very late and drivers have to leave before all the races are done or we just run out of time to actually complete all races period. Also, for classes like the Porsche Cup and Lambo Series, we never have the time to run the full six races as we should where everyone drives every car.

After some thought and having analysed the average qualifying lap times, I've come up with the following suggested revision of the class groupings and race structure (the classes are listed by average qualifying time, slowest to fastest):

Event 1
  • Porsche Cup - 6 races @ 30 laps/race (180 laps total)
  • Historic Saloon - 3 races @ 30 laps/race (90 laps total)
Event 2
  • Vintage Sports - 3 races @ 30 laps/race (90 laps total)
  • Restricted GT - 3 races @ 30 laps/race (90 laps total)
  • Modified Production - 3 races @ 30 laps/race (90 laps total)
Event 3
  • Lambo Series - 6 races @ 30 laps/race (180 laps total)
  • Slot-It Challenge - 3 races @ 30 laps/race (90 laps total)
Event 4
  • F1 - 3 races @ 30 laps/race (90 laps total)
  • GT - 3 races @ 30 laps/race (90 laps total)
  • American Muscle - 3 races @ 30 laps/race (90 laps total)
  • LMP - 3 races @ 30 laps/race (90 laps total)
As an alternative to having four classes on the same night we can split the Event 4 groupings into two separate groupings and increase the races to 45 laps each:

Event 4
  • F1 - 3 races @ 45 laps/race (135 laps total)
  • GT - 3 races @ 45 laps/race (135 laps total)
Event 5
  • American Muscle - 3 races @ 45 laps/race (135 laps total)
  • LMP - 3 races @ 45 laps/race (135 laps total)
These are my preliminary suggestions for you all to study and come back with comments and suggestions of your own, so please do.

On a second note, whilst everyone really appreciates the BBQ addition to our events, it does eat up a fair chunk of time (pun intended :)). As an alternative I'd like to suggest that we instead have everyone sub up and we buy some pre-prepared snacks, thus saving time while still enjoying this gastronomic and social deviation.

Gordon,

You have FRC Racing sounding really nice (that it is with my 2 thumbs right up) with those descriptive words of yours.

O'Brie & you came up with a great idea and for the PC and LS racing... Racing six races in those 2 classes is going to be sweet!!!

The new proposed class groupings is very interesting but noticed you left out IC and think you may have forgotten about the 6 Ferrari F430 Racing Cars...

All in All ~ here is my suggestion...

Event 1
PC - 6 Races @ 30
HS - 3 Races @ 30

Event 2
LS - 6 Races @ 30
VS - 3 Races @ 30

Event 3
FR - 6 Races (Ferrari F430 Racing) @ 30
MP - 3 Races @ 30

Event 4
RGT- 3 @ 30
SC - 3 @ 30
F1 - 3 @ 30

Event 5
AM - 3 @ 40
GT - 3 @ 40
LMP - 3 @ 40

 More or Less the same lines as your proposal but keeping the Open (Fast Nite) Classes together.

 :?: :!: :D

Luke,

I like your suggestions and I did forget the FR (Ferrari Challenge?) class. Thanks for reminding me. Only change I would suggest is the sequence that we run the groups. Here's a variation:

Event 1
Porsche Cup - 6 Races @ 30
Historic Saloon - 3 Races @ 30

Event 2
Restricted GT- 3 @ 30
Slot.It Challenge - 3 @ 30
F1 - 3 @ 30

Event 3
Lambo Series - 6 Races @ 30
Vintage Sports - 3 Races @ 30

Event 4
American Muscle - 3 @ 40
GT - 3 @ 40
LMP - 3 @ 40

Event 5
Ferrari Challenge - 6 Races (Ferrari F430 Racing) @ 30
Modified Production - 3 Races @ 30

Of course this still does not include Indy Car, however we currently seem to not have many drivers with cars in this class, so perhaps for now we can moth ball it.

Gordon I totally agreed with your first proposal until I saw Luke's own and then your revision of it. I'm all for it and also agree with a contribution for snacks or maybe we can just bring stuff as we've done in the past. I really like the barbecue though. Maybe we can have one night in , say, every quarter when we do the grilling and just have a driving/testing session on that night.
