Race report #88 - Saturday 22nd October, 2011

Hi Guys,
Well the weather was the complete opposite of last week's deluge. Bright sun and a hot afternoon tempered by the breeze of two stragetically-places fans eventually turned into a cool evening. Things on the track were anything but cool however. Scheduled classes were Porsche Cup (PC), Historic Saloon (HS) and Vintage Sports (VS) and although it took a while for them to arrive, we had six drivers present with their cars for a lot of testing and short on-track practice battles. Unfortunately, O'Brie had to leave not long after 6:00 PM leaving just five drivers to compete in the races.
In the interest of more consistent performance amongst the PC cars I trued the tyres slightly and this really did make a positive difference, bring their performance much closer together than before. We decided to roll a dice for starting grid positions with the Porsches since drivers would be moving to a different car for each race anyway. HS saw the return of Nicholas' very quick Holden Torana which took pole over half a second quicker than the next car, Boo's Ford Escort. My new Ford GT40 again managed pole in VS, followed by Luke's Ferrari 250 GTO/LM.
Racing was very close as is always the case in these "slower" classes. It was also more challenging and, consequently, more rewarding for drivers who rose to the challenge. In all three classes it was the final race which decided the ultimate winners. Everyone agreed that, despite the small turnout, it was a great night of racing, the last drivers rushing off with barely twenty minutes to curfew time at 11:00 PM.

Next event's classes: Restricted GT, Slot-It Challenge, Lambo Series (3 races each @ 30 laps - 270 total for all classes). Don't forget to see the updated fastest times for the FRC classes to know what the benchmarks are for your cars. Also of interest are the updated class average qualifying times.
