Race report #82 - Wednesday 20th July, 2011

Post by gordon »

Hi Guys,

The eight drivers who turned up for our 82nd event were faced with a track that had more power right round the lap than ever before. The work of the previous Saturday and Sunday had paid off big time. Drivers were having to re-learn just how far they could squeeze their throttles through the turns and for the whole lap, it wasn't much! In between races, Kyle pulled out his very quick American Muscle Boss Mustang and, despite its magnet downforce, found that he couldn't apply full throttle in many places he used to, much of the time only on the very exit of the corners.

Classes run were Restricted GT, Slot.It Challenge and F1. Because of the eight entries for RGT, the class was split into A and B subgroups of four cars, based on qualifying times. Slot.It qualifying was extremely close with all six cars separated by less than half a second, a precursor of what the racing would be like. In F1, Alex had his Dallara in a class of its own, beating the second car in qualifying by as much as the time separating all six Slot.It qualifiers and running almost two seconds faster than the sixth F1 qualifying time!

As usual, the racing was fast and furious and, although Boo had to leave before we finished, Alex actually stayed right to the end, quite unusual for him ;) .

Racing was done by 11:30 PM, and the last hangers-on left by about 12:30 after packing everything up.

Congratulations to the winners.

Next event's classes: Porsche Cup, Historic Saloon, Vintage Sports (3 races each @ 30 laps - 270 total for all classes) - see the regulations here.

See you on the circuit...
