RACE REPORT #358 - May 29th 2026 (HSnm, APCnm, MPnm)
Our 358th event for Historic Saloon, American Pony Car and Modified Production cars saw exactly six drivers competing for honours, one being O'Brie's son Sean who, with his wife, was on a holiday visit from their home in the UK. It was the first time in a long while that all the men in the O'Brien family were competing together at FRC and what a good time it was!
There were many cars driven – some of them amazingly fast – along with several de-slots when over-exuberance got the better of the drivers. The races themselves were pretty close in most cases and everyone had a great time attempting to get to or stay at the front. There were also a couple of race retirements, O'Brie just completing nine laps in the first American Pony Car race and me driving just thirteen laps in the first Historic Saloon race when my Capri's chassis broke.
At the end of the day, we had managed to have a long practice session testing our various cars, qualify those we had selected to start with and then drive six races, two for each of the three classes.
As usual, we had a final boardroom meeting with the regular refreshments and old talk then headed off to our respective homes.
Footnote: The battery died on my laptop while the FRC database was open. This database contains a record of all the results since April 8th 2009, a total of 18,219 computer records with all the details of every event we've had. This led to a corruption of the database, causing it to fail to open. All the years of records were no longer accessible and the software which I wrote and evolved over the many years went with it. I spent the better part of the past days doing a lot of online research and trying multiple things to get it accessible and working again, all to no avail. I had just about given up and was in somewhat of a depressed state of mind when I found one more thing online to try and this solved the problem. It allowed me to get the program working once more and restore all the data from an Apple Time Machine software backup. Thank you Google for helping me eventually find the solution, and Apple for the wonderful magic of your Time Machine software.
