RACE REPORT #350 - November 22nd 2025 (CMSPnm)

For our 350th event, we decided to do something a bit different. We all have cars which we most often choose to race in the various FRC classes because they're typically the fastest cars we own for each class. This means that, aside from practice runs, we virtually never race many cars we own and enjoy driving. Based on this, Steve and I came up with a way to race some of the FRC Clubman cars we own but do not normally race. To this end, we also excluded eligible cars that were raced at the last event for Clubman, Kitbash and Historic Saloon, as cars from each of these classes could be either directly eligible for them or be modified for them. Because we also wanted to race cars with similar lap times together as much as was possible, the first order of the day was to run qualifying sessions for all cars on hand.

Initially present were Peter, Steve and I; however Warren turned up with some of his cars to test, so once he had done a bit of driving his cars, he joined us to help qualify the Clubman cars. He couldn't stay to race, however Keith arrived just in time to be the fourth driver for the event and he joined us, driving in the six races that we ran. Once qualifying was completed, we began the races, grouping cars into sets of four closest in times, starting from slowest to fastest. This produced six thirty-lap races that all proved to be pretty close and a lot of fun.

We finished the racing at around 6:30 PM, at which time I had a final 0.0 at the boardroom table before rushing off to my daughter's house, where she was hosting a family dinner for Debbie's birthday.

Great race event as usual at FRC !
I was very excited for this event as I knew that both Gordon and I had a number of cars eligible for the class as set out, enough in fact that even if other drivers didn't have cars of their own, one could have been provided. Although all cars were compliant with the technical specifications of Clubman class (but not necessarily with that class' 1969 age limit), there were various performance levels present. It was decided then that to avoid great disparities in performance for each race, that all cars present would be qualified and cars with similar lap times would be raced together. A quasi bracket racing scenario as it were ! Warren was on hand to do some testing before we got under way but in an effort to speed up proceedings, he helped by qualifying a few cars despite not being able to stay for the racing. This was too bad as I'm sure he would have enjoyed it immensely. It was only after qualifying was finished and we were grouping the cars that I realized that I had forgotten my MGB at home. I really wanted to race this car but it wasn't to be ! Keith showed up in time for the the actual racing and the four driver field for all races made for some great racing. In the end, we had six very entertaining and competitive races with quite a few of the cars being driven in more than one race by more than one driver.
Congrats Gordon, on taking the Index Of Performance award !
Looking forward to the next event !!
