RACE REPORT #318 - May 4th 2024 (HSnm, APCnm, MPnm)

Seven drivers got together for an afternoon of liming, old talk, some drinks and eats and, most of all, some exciting and challenging racing at FRC's 318th event, this one for our Historic Saloon, American Pony Car and Modified Production classes.

We had minimal computer issues which were generally speedily rectified and ended up doing two races for each class after qualifying. The racing was close, however different drivers had mixed fortunes, O'Brie being the one with the most issues, largely because of a misbehaving controller.

Unfortunately, I was distracted and forgot to take pictures of one qualifying session as well as some of the race results. Luckily, I was able to put together what I believe are accurate results through looking at the grid and podium pictures we take at our events. As on the previous occasion when this occurred with the qualifying, I substituted times of 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 and 70 seconds in order to get the correct qualifying sequence of the cars, yet not have any times be close to actual lap times.

Despite the few negatives, as always, it was an afternoon of the usual great camaraderie that we try to have every two or three weeks.

Following are the usual pics to start things off.

FRC 318th. Event - Saturday May 4th 2024 ...

Started on Friday May 3rd the day before (for me) because took a drive down South/Gasparillo to collect 2 dazzling sets x 3 sponsored cars.

These digital slot-cars belong to Ramesh and was told (by him) they are just sitting in their respective containers doing nothing since March 2020 & remember because of the start of Pandemic :(

That said ... and Ramesh not having the time like he use to racing at FRC ...

Myself & Ian was offered the opportunity to race these same digital cars in their fixed FRC classes.

The well detailed Race Report will explain how skillfully those (Ramesh sponsored) cars raced against the other models.

All in all ... ah great evening as usual at Haleland Park Maraval and here's some interesting talking points with the guys:
  • Ian .......... telling us about some of his thrilling & unusual Race Boat stories.

Keith ...... telling us about a Garage Sale and an entire Scalextric Set for only (five dollars) $5.00 ...

Peter ...... telling me he will buy the Grand F1 Alonso Scalextric Model Car Collection (of 20 cars) for $5000.00 ...

Steve ...... telling me after mistakenly de-slotting him ... he normally slows down for corners ...

Gordon ... telling me how much he enjoys the pics / vids posted on the WhatsApp group chat.

O'Brie .... telling me he calls out the Lord's name because how much he LOVE Jesus - Amen.

Me (Luke) ... finding out I am the youngest member in the group - the puppy among the old ones :D
 On a personal note, during the actual races:

Realized I was only racing on memory and not doing so well but when I applied some of my finer points (at the controls) it's when I noticed some improvement just like my early Fairways Racing Days ..!

 It actually felt much better racing at certain parts of the races ;)

Believe most of the activities was covered in a holding pattern & happy to be part of 8-)

Great afternoon/evening as usual at FRC !
Fair turnout of drivers for this event ensured that most classes had full grids. It was great to see Kent show up and present FRC with two lovely 3D printed Savannah benches. Kent did take a little drive but regrettably didn't stay for the racing.
Racing was as close and exciting as ever but unfortunately there were car issues for O'Brie who also wasn't feeling 100% towards the end of the event. Nice to see Peter making some more frequent trips to the podium in recent times but huge congrats go to Ian on taking his first win at FRC in the event's first race ! This on a weekend where Lando Norris, driving for McLaren ( which I believe is one of Ian's favourite F1 teams) took his maiden F1 victory !
The event was made even better when the guys were presented with a platter of goodies (cold cuts, cheeses, crackers etc.) which was thoroughly enjoyed. When racing was over, Gordon, Peter and I had a few minutes of car testing before packing up.
Congrats to Ian and Gordon on winning Historic Saloon and Modified Production classes respectively. Congrats also to Gordon on jointly taking the overall victory for the race meeting.
Looking forward to the next event !
