RACE REPORT #317 - Apr 20th 2024 (CMnm, IROC, SCnm, F1nm)

We got a bit of a late start for Saturday's event for our Clubman, IROC, Slot.It Challenge and Formula 1 classes, but still had a reasonable turnout of seven drivers present, although Keith opted just to marshal. Due to the great work done particularly by O'Brie and Ian, the track was wonderful, with equal power on both lanes and there was lots of it!

The Clubman and Slot.It Challenge racing went off well, with us running two races for each of these classes. The F1 cars, however were a real handful to drive with all the new power and the automatic dynamic braking that we can't seem to get rid of. Because of this, we just did a single race for these cars. The cars and racing were very close though, with qualifying times for all three classes being within a second of the pole car. Because we wanted to get in at least two races for each class, we postponed the IROC race to be the final one and never ended up having it.

We have a few lane changers not closing, causing unplanned auto-changes, so Peter is hoping to arrange getting new replacements. Overall though it was another fun-filled afternoon and evening for all present.

Following are a few pics to start things off.

Well Fellas ... firstly, must say never a dull moment with FRC's Race Reporting and No.317 / April 2024 ...

I always remembered the very first Race Report and if I could think back since .... No.001 / April 2009 ...

That said, only just recognize Race Reports No.1 to 40 with original website (which includes the beginnings of FRC racing) is NO longer available

https://www.frcforum.com/viewtopic.php? ... 9ef7b2ef11

So, lets make the best of ... and sure you'll may realize something with April dates 8-)

This month is exactly the 15th. Year (Anniversary) of racing many many 1:32 slot-cars at FRC and hard luck we didn't recognize celebration at this event - maybe at the next one :D

On a personal note ... and how I hardly take part racing competitively like I use to in the earlier days ...

Noticed in Clubman 2 heat - felt like if I was one with yellow No.02 Capri car & how I improved by one position don't mind it's from 6th to 5th ;) :)

Have to say how I believe you 6 guys' ... Gordon, Steve, O'brie, Peter, Keith and (up & coming) newest racer Ian ... can close your eyes racing :P

During the racing - noticed how each one of you accelerated & decelerated at the exact moment all around the racing circuit.

All in all ... always Great Times at FRC :!:

Luke, I transferred all of those original race reports to my computer and have plans to put them here under a separate heading when I get the time.

Luke, I didn't miss noticing that you definitely improved and I'm sure you will continue to do so with each event. As I mentioned in the report above, all the qualifying times were covered by less than one second.

I'm not seeing any duplication O'Brie. Not sure how your web browser is displaying them. Anyone else seeing this?

Okay, now see the duplication. I was looking at the grid pics, not the SSDC screen pics. Will fix the second one.

Great afternoon/evening of racing as usual at FRC !
I decided to give my usual Clubman combatants (Nissan Skyline, Austin A40) and last event's winner (240Z) a rest this event and race some different cars. My plan was to race the MGB in at least one of the races but its handling seemed to be a little skittish so I shelved that idea. For the first race, I tried out both my BMW 2002 and Nick's lovely Alfa Romeo Giulia. Performance was very similar but I went with the BMW which proved to be a good choice. For the second race, the Falcon seemed to have an edge on the competition in practice but in the race it could only manage third, no doubt due to some brilliant driving by both Gordon and Ian. In Slot.it Challenge, the Nissan R89 worked well in practice and qualifying but jerky performance in the race, due to an almost severed braid, put paid to any hope of a good race result in the first race. I used my trusty steed, the Toyota 88C in race two and managed to hold off O'Brie's faster Sauber for a second place. In Fornula 1, my Ferrari completely lost power after a few laps and had to be retired. Not sure the reason as yet.
Despite the mixed results, it was great fun racing and the usual ole talk made the event even more so !
Congrats to Gordon on winning Clubman and Slot.it Challenge and to O'Brie on winning F1. Congrats also to Gordon on taking the event's overall win and extending the lead in the year's points tally.
Well done also to Ian on taking the Index Of Performance accolades.

*One correction to be made Gordon: the Escort Mk1 driven in Clubman is his own, not mine.
