Race report #74 - Tuesday 14th April, 2011

Post by gordon »

Hi Guys,

Our fast night - American Muscle, GT and LMP - saw seven drivers competing for honours at FRC. In addition, Steve turned up to help out (he had no cars to run in these classes) and newcomer Chris was also a big help with the marshaling. Despite some drivers arriving early and qualifying starting late, a number of cars never made it to the grid for the q-sessions (I think that another FRC test day is overdue). Dougie, Marc and Brent earned the top qualifying positions in the three classes and, for the most part, this was a precursor to what would happen in the races.

American Muscle saw an ongoing battle for the front between Dougie and Brent, however there were lots of challengers for the remaining places providing substantial action in the class. Marc's GT pole position was no fluke, his Lambo Gallardo being incredibly fast, particularly in a straight line. Unfortunately, a number of de-slots masked its potential as a big winner. My old faithful Ferrari was able to run amongst the front runners which included Laird's brand new Porsche 997 that was absolutely flying. In LMP there was nothing to match the speed of Brent's Jaguar XKRS which was in a class by itself. Nearest competitor in terms of speed was Luke's Porsche 962, however he couldn't keep it in the slot. Dougie did well with his out-paced Ferrari P4 to place second overall in the class.

The night turned out to be a lot of fun with some close on-track battles throughout the field in all the races which finished close to midnight.

On a final note, from this event on, the overall driver points for the event now has an official title of "Champion Driver of the Event".
