RACE REPORT #292 - Oct 30th 2021 (KBnm, CMnm, MPnm)
Just Steve and Keith joined me for our event yesterday, as O'Brie was in quarantine and therefore confined to home. We did the usual testing before eventually running just three races, one each for Kitbash, Clubman and Modified Production. Despite the small turnout, we all enjoyed the afternoon and were treated to (and all got to test) two new and interesting cars, a brand new out-the-box Sideways BMW M1 recently acquired by Keith - his first car to grace FRC - and Steve's Sideways Ferrari 512BB which he's secretly had for some time. Both cars got down to really good times and have winning potential.
One note: We decided to try the idea of finalising actual race start grid positions by allowing the qualifiers to select their preferred grid position, based on the positions remaining available.
Here's how it works: Selection must be done in qualifying order, ie. fastest qualifier chooses his position, followed by second-fastest qualifier, etc. till everyone has chosen their position. The same system can be used for subsequent races for the class, but based on finishing positions of previous race. Index of performance was based on qualifying grid position and finishing position.
The results
Kitbash grid, based on qualifying times: Keith driving Steve's Mustang GT350 on pole, followed by Steve's beautiful Corvette Stingray on grid two and my NSU TT at the back:
Clubman grid: Steve's VW on pole, followed by my Corvette and Keith driving Steve's BMW:
Actual starting positions:
Modified Production grid: My Zakspeed Capri on pole, followed by Steve's Peugeot and Keith driving Steve's Zakspeed Escort:
Actual starting positions:
(How this is computed: https://www.frcforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=393)
Congratulations to the winners.
Next event's classes: The usual non-magnet cars across all eligible classes. I may in advance stipulate a few specific classes which we'll qualify and race.
Don't forget to see the updated overall fastest times and the fastest no-magnet times by driver and class to know what the benchmarks are for your cars. Older stats can be found in the Archive area of the forum.
See you on the circuit...
