RACE REPORT #290 - Aug 21st 2021 (VS6075PRnm)
For our first "real" session since 10th April this year, we had a full masked and vaccinated group of five drivers come by on Saturday after lunch. These included O'Brie, Steve, Luke T, Keith and myself. As usual there were many cars to be tested and adjusted and this took up the majority of the session. It included Luke's brand new Ford Sierra prepared for our no-magnet (nm) Mod Prod class. Luke was able to make some minor improvements and they're a lot more to come!
Despite referring to it as a "real" session, we actually only ran a single race for our Vintage Sports 60-75 Prototype class. In keeping with the fact that the actual Le Mans race was in progress at the time, we decided to run it as a time-based race over 24 minutes and dubbed it "The 24 Minutes of FRC". Qualifying was done using the new format with all cars on track for a timed period (typically 3-5 minutes).
As always, everyone had a good time getting back into slots and we look forward to more frequent sessions in the future.
Practice
There were a lot of cars being tested:
Comparing O'Brie's and my "long" cars:
Luke's Sierra:
A posed grid (just for the heck of it ):
Sheltering from the rain:
Some practice videos made by Luke:
The results
Qualifying times:
FRC 24 Minutes grid: My Ferrari P4 on pole, followed by Steve's Porsche 917, O'Brie's Ford GT Mk IV, Luke driving my Ford GT Mk IV and Keith driving Steve's Ford GT40:
First lap, first corner accident takes out all cars:
Mid-race accident involving Luke's Mk IV, my P4 and Keith'sGT40:
FRC 24 Minutes results (cars #3 and #6 fastest laps are incorrect because of a track-call button incident):
Congratulations to all drivers for completing the 24 minutes.
Next event's classes: The usual non-magnet cars across all eligible classes. I may in advance stipulate a few specific classes which we'll qualify and race.
Don't forget to see the updated overall fastest times and the fastest no-magnet times by driver and class to know what the benchmarks are for your cars and the updated fastest no-magnet times. Older stats can be found in the Archive area of the forum.
See you on the circuit...
