RACE REPORT #283 - January 9th 2020 (MP, RGT, RLMP, F1)

We had eight attendees at our 2020 opening event for our fast classes, Modified Production (MP), Restricted GT (RGT), Restricted LMP (RLMP) and Formula 1 (F1), six of which took part in the races. We also welcomed Nigel, an old Scalextric fan who Peter brought along to check out digital slot racing at FRC. He even had a go, doing several fine laps in Steve's Audi RGT car. Before officially starting the night's proceedings, Ramesh said a very nice prayer and we followed this up by he and I doing several laps in Kyle's two self-built cars in his memory.

Instead of the full tech inspection usually done, we just confirmed that the cars were dropping away from the USD block and moved on the the qualifying and racing, running one 40-lap race for each class. There were some very fast times set in qualifying, the fastest all belonging to Team Bhola, something we've all come to expect. They did get some competition in the races, so there was a lot of close action as well as some collisions and de-slots as drivers pushed harder and harder to run at or near the front.

We managed to finish our last race a little after 11:00 PM, which wasn't bad considering that there were four classes run. Things will heat up again in a few week's time when we start back with our slowest classes (Group A) for Kitbash, Historic Saloon, American Pony Car and Vintage Sports.

Great night of racing as usual at FRC and a fine season opener it was.Nice to have Nigel visit with us. Hopefully it won't be his last time at FRC. Racing was lots of fun but my cars just weren't up to scratch at this event. Congrats to Ram on winning F1, Luke on winning RGT and Index Of Performance, and Luke B. on winning MP, RLMP and raking the night's overall honours.
Looking forward to the next event.
Steve

The first FRC event of 2020 ..!

When I first visited FRC (slot-car racing) in 2009 ... I never thought it would have been for so many years later. Even some of my family (& friends) find it amazing I’m still into slot-car activities all these years.

Suppose it’s a great part of my lifestyle even though it has declined somewhat ...

Anyway, many good (and not so good) times happened through the years and what’s fascinating about it all, how it seems like it’s in months rather than years. Someone once told me - it’s because you’re having a great time. Probably so but I think it’s because of how fast time (on the whole) is moving. To the point - you would go to bed at night-time and before you know it - it’s morning-time.

All in all ... didn’t plan on staying for long at this grand number of FRC’s 283 racing events but as life would have it - Que Sera, Sera - what will be, will be.

Nonetheless it was thrilling to see Gordon and Ramesh (paying homage) racing a couple laps of honor with cars belonging to Kyle ... Plus listening to a Powerfully said Prayer by Ramesh for Gordon and his Family.

I will end off with (a personal note) how the racing competition went ...

I was sponsored two (2) nice cars by Ramesh for the Mod Prod and Restricted GT classes ... But sorry I couldn’t stay around for RLMP and F1 classes.

However, the well detailed Race Report will show the Results ;-)

Nice little summing up of your racing at FRC over the years there Luke. Yes, time has flown by, but it’s always been fun to have all you guys meet here every few weeks to enjoy the racing with me.

Thank you Gordon and must take note ... how you can always count on Steve for his overall summaries of (almost all) racing activities.

I like how he makes sure to include everyone in is written report that were present.

There were times he even included (regular) persons that was absent.

He probably forgot to include O’bire in this one :(

Nevertheless it’s a great job by Steve.
