RACE REPORT #281 - November 7th 2019 (KB, HS, APC, VS6075)
Despite the absence of Arden and Luke B, the "slow" classes event for our Kitbash, Historic Saloon, American Pony Car, Vintage Sports GT and Vintage Sports Prototype classes had a perfect number of drivers to fill the six driver stations, thanks to the return of FRC long-time racer Kerwin. After a hiatus of seven years (yes, he last raced in early July 2012 when he drove an Audi R8C in Slot.It Challenge), it was really great to see Kerwin taking part in our races, driving loaner cars in each of the five classes raced. Here's a shot of him about to take his first practice laps with my Escort soon after he arrived:
When it came down to the racing I have to say that I'm sure all six drivers had a great time. The racing saw a good mixture of different drivers winning and/or taking podiums and there was a lot of action on track, with several de-slotting incidents, some minor, others less so! I'll let the pictures below fill in the story.
Results
Kitbash starting grid: My Triumph TR4A on pole followed by Ramesh's Porsche 911 Carrera, Steve's Datsun Slyline, Luke driving Ramesh's Porsche 911S, O'Brie's brand new Peugeot 205 T16 and Kerwin driving O'Brie's Mini Cooper:
Steve's Skyline being squeezed between my TR4A and O'Brie's Peugeot as the three exit Fosters:
Luke's Porsche, O'Brie's Peugeot, My TR4A and Steve's Skyline all tangle as they enter the start/finish straight:
Luke's Porsche lies on its roof while O'Brie's Peugeot parks against the guardrail after a coming-together on the infield:
Its real close action in Fosters as my TR4A hounds Steve's Skyline mid-corner:
Another coming-together going through the esses involving Ramesh's Porsche, O'Brie's Peugeot and Luke's Porsche. The sign on the wall is quite appropriate here:
Luke and O'Brie tangle again, this time on the Carousel exit:
Historic Saloon starting grid, with the Capris of myself, Ramesh, Luke with a second Bhola entry and O'Brie ahead of Steve's MkII Escort and Kerwin driving my MkI Escort:
My Challenger leads off the APC grid, followed by O'Brie driving Steve's Mustang, Ramesh's Camaro, Steve's Javelin, Luke driving another Bhola Camaro and Kerwin driving my Mustang:
Action on the Carousel exit as Ramesh's Camaro lies on its roof, followed by Luke's Camaro and Steve's Mustang, while my Challenger goes by on the infield:
Kerwin's and O'Brie's Mustangs doing some off-roading alongside Caiman Pond:
Steve's Javelin and Ramesh's Camaro both run wide on the Carousel exit:
Same spot alongside Caiman Pond for Kerwin's Mustang, this time having Luke's Camaro for company:
The manufacturer points go to Dodge:
Vintage Sports '60-'75 GT grid: Ramesh's De Tomaso Pantera on pole, followed by Luke in another of Ramesh's Panteras, Steve's Porsche 914/6, O'Brie's Ferrari 250 GTO, my Cobra Daytona and Kerwin driving Steve's Cheetah:
A mad moment as my Cobra, Luke's Pantera, O'Brie's Ferrari and Steve's Porsche all end up pointing in the wrong direction:
The Vintage Sports Prototype grid was topped by Ramesh's McLaren M8D, followed by Steve's Alfa 33/3, Luke driving Ramesh's similar Alfa, my Chaparral 2E making its race debut, O'Brie's Lola T70 Mk III and my Ferrari 330 P4 driven by Kerwin:
A crazy scene just before the Dunlop bridge as my Chaparral ends up on top of Luke's Alfa, while O'Brie's Lola narrowly misses the accident:
(How this is computed: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=393)
Congratulations to the winners!

Great night as usual of racing at FRC.
I enjoy all racing at FRC but particularly look forward to this class grouping. It is always nice to see new (or at least new to racing) cars show up at FRC and there were three such cars this time, O'Brie's nice Peugeot 205 in KB, Gordon's sweet Chaparral in VS(P) and my Escort Mk 2 RS2000 in HS. None won their respective classes but all performed credibly and added to the very varied car mix. Great to see long time racer Kerwin appear and race. I remember co-driving with him and winning an endurance event with my Toyota 88C many years ago. Congrats to Gordon on winning the Kitbash and American Pony Car classes and to Dodge on taking the Manufacturer honours. Congrats to Ramesh on winning everything else.
Looking forward to the next event. Hopefully Luke's VW van might make an appearance then !

Agreed Steve. I was looking forward to seeing the bus as i am serious about a track cleaner. I think it would be quite cool to have it slowly do the track while we busy ourselves with the rest of the evenings preparations. And thanks for lending me the Mustang it ran well ... sorry

The GULF VW panel van seems to be causing some unwanted attention
Steve, again like you playing you don’t know nothing ...
It was posted on the FRC WhatsApp chat, how it does not belong to me which also means ‘tough luck’ seeing an appearance at FRC ...
Maybe some other by someone else.
However and with a number of suggestions, this one I picked.
If you want, ask Gordon if he still has the (great looking) pics of the orange VW bus taken at his office, it can probably be posted here for the benefit of you & O’brie viewing pleasure.
On another note ~ if you guys are so serious about a slot-car track cleaner ... how about using one of your own underpowered models.
Mind you, don’t bother to think about using any of my models because you can’t play didn’t notice, how I’m selling them off on Charlotte street, oh shucks sorry the Slot Car Sales WhatsApp chat I meant.
Ent O’brie
Anymore comments about the new GULF VW panel van
Hopefully not.

O'Brie,
you're very welcome. Looks like I have to make some tweaks to the Javelin though.

Re: Race report #281 - Thursday Nov 7th 2019 (KB, HS, APC, VS6075)
I suspect that we will need more than one motor to drive the cleaning bus. One with a huge reduction gear box (huge as in reduction not size!) one to drive the reverse cleaning belt (probably a cloth sweat band??) Not sure if a third will be needed for a lightly abrasive pad??? It could trail a drip feed Inox applicator as well! come on Luke no shame in owning one I just want to put it to good use!
Re: Race report #281 - Thursday Nov 7th 2019 (KB, HS, APC, VS6075)
Nah don’t think so O’brie (but if you wish I can get a VW bus for you) and why bother about such a complex track cleaner when there is this ...
You could even use one of the underperforming slot-cars to move it around
All the same, have a great evening boss
