RACE REPORT #280 - October 17th 2019 (MP, RGT, RLMP, F1)

We had exactly six drivers competing in our Modified Production, Restricted GT, Restricted LMP and Formula 1 races, the fastest cars we race at FRC. Although present, Anthony did not compete, instead testing his BTCC cars in between the races. My Canadian-resident long-time friend and fellow karter and rally driver from the '70s/'80s, David Cuthbert (also the voice of racing at Wallerfield back then) had his first test session at FRC, initially driving one of our IROC Porsche 997s, then doing laps with my RLMP Lola-Aston and Alpine rally car after the races.

With each race set at 50 laps, the racing itself was full of the usual action, MP starting things off with several crashes. By the time we moved on to RGT and RLMP, things had settled down and cars were running many laps in close bunches without de-slotting. The craziness and crashes returned with our last race for F1 cars, during which we finally remembered to record the action with photos, something we neglected to do before. As a result, other than the starting grid pics, the only action shots featured here of F1 cars.

Despite the lack of pics for the other classes, as well as car problems experienced by some drivers (O'Brie in particular), we all had the usual challenging, entertaining and fun-filled time that six-cars-in-two-lanes digital slot racing provides!

Boy oh boy was that a dismal exhibition of lack of preparation on my part!!! Sorry guys I need to do better!
However, the night was still enjoyable watching (after retirement) the GT class with fantastic driving and EXTREME competition in the closing laps!! Great stuff.

Action packed night of great racing as usual at FRC.
Although these fastest of classes are not really my favourites, the racing proved to be really fun and full of action. For Mod.Prod. I dragged out my vintage Escort Mk 2 and after doing some laps in testing, thought that it might actually be fun to race it and as a result, my trusty BMW 320i was parked for the night. Had a nice battle going with O'Brie until unfortunately his Impreza was forced to retire. In GT and LMP, again although not as fast as the leaders, I had some good fun driving my Porsche 911 GT1 and Lancia LC2/85 respectively. F1 continues to be my Achilles Heel but I'll keep on trying !
Congrats to Luke B. on winning every all classes and also the Index Of Performance award.
Looking forward to the next event.

Gordon, just for the record, I'm sure that my Escort's qualifying time was quite a bit quicker than the 6.654 seconds reported here. I know I qualified 4th so suspect that there was a typo. The time was more likely 5.654 seconds.

Steve you're 100% correct. Sorry about that. I've fixed it in the database and this is reflected in the updated qualifying info above.
