RACE REPORT #273 - July 4th 2019 (RC, SC, F1)

Thursday's event for our Rally (RC), Slot.It Challenge (SC) and Formula 1 (F1) classes saw some of the closest rally results we've ever had. Six drivers competed in the rally stages and SC races, five in F1 and we ran our first official Scratch Built (SB) qualifying and race, with four drivers taking part.

We started off the night's competition with SB and it was interesting to finally book some official times for the class, Steve topping them with his Nissan Skyline. Unfortunately, Ramesh did not bring along his SB cars, so we had just four competitors, of which he was one, using Steve's Escort Mk I.

The rally stages saw the top two cars being separated by 0.375 sec after the three stages! That's with both drivers each doing three separate runs of five laps. Quite astonishing. Third and fourth places were just 2.979 sec and 5.171 sec off the winning time, respectively.

Although not as close, both SC and F1 provided some exciting racing. At the end, we had a tie for Champion Driver and a three-way tie for Index of Performance. It was once again a fun-filled night of slot racing and friendly competition. Sorry if you missed it.

Great night of racing as usual at FRC !
The fun started even before the actual racing got under way, with Gordon, O'Brie, me and even Jonathan running some hot laps together with the scratch-built cars. I really like this class and will definitely be bringing a car for this class to every FRC event.
Actual racing got underway with the Scratch-Built Class and although this race was only ten laps, it was lots of fun. Those little 14k RPM motors sure work well ! The Rally class was every bit as exciting as expected and the closeness of the times bears this out. I finally got my Impreza to get under 40 seconds for a stage time. Actually did two 38s which made me very happy ! In Slot.it Challenge, I had a braid issue with my Nissan R89C and had to fall back on my trusty Toyota 88C. Had some nice racing with O'Brie and Arden here. In F1, my mid-season tweaks did not bear the fruit that I expected and after testing, decided to use my backup car. This was off the pace of the leaders but again here, I had a lot of fun racing with Arden.
Congrats to Gordon on winning the Rally Class, to Luke B. for winning Slot.it Challenge and F1, to Gordon and Luke B. on their joint overall win and to O'Brie, Gordon and Luke B. on their joint Index Of Performance honours.
Looking forward to the next event.

Thanks guys for a great night. Sorry that i missed F1 but i hope that i can be ready for the next time???
I agree with Steve the SB class is fun! But to add more fuel to the discussion when we were running the rally class together in practice, the competition was great!!! I guess that that says a lot for non magnet racing :D :? I hope that I can put together a few cars for the next event as ALL of my cars were non performers! I will have to start from scratch with the whole bunch which I suspect that the workload that is ahead in the coming weeks may leave me with no time to do them all. We will see? Looking forward to it nevertheless because as Ramish said it not the winning that counts but the great fun and friendship at the meetings. Love it! :D
