RACE REPORT #271 - May 22nd 2019 (MP, RGT, RLMP)
A nice turnout of eight drivers attended our 271st event for our fastest classes, Modified Production, Restricted GT and Restricted LMP, although in the end only six actually ended up competing in the races. Everyone did a fair amount of testing and practice before we got the first qualifying session going about an hour later than planned.
Racing was close in MP and surprisingly, the track appeared to have equal power in both lanes throughout the evening, making things even closer in all classes. RGT was basically two races in one, in that the two Team Bhola Honda HSVs were basically uncatchable by the rest of the field, however each group had some close peer-to-peer fighting. RLMP was more evenly spread out from first to sixth place. There was some close dicing when traffic conditions backed up the field. Richard did a good job with his '70s Matra, keeping in the outside lane and out of the way of the faster traffic. Unfortunately neither Luke T nor Edward B actually competed, however they did get to do some driving before and in-between the races.
Despite just doing just a single 50-lap race in each of the three classes, it was a great evening of slot-car driving and camaraderie without being rushed to complete the schedule. We closed by having drink and a toast to O'Brie who was celebrating his birthday the following day.
The results
Modified Production starting grid - Luke B's Peugeot 208 on pole followed by my Zakspeed Capri, Ramesh's Peugeot 208, Steve's BMW 320i and O'Brie's Group 5 320i:
Restricted GT starting grid - Ramesh with his Honda HSV, followed by Luke B's similar car, my Porsche 911R, Steve's Porsche 911 GT1, and my Viper driven by O'Brie:
Four of the five RGT cars battle through the hairpin. O'Brie's Viper and Steve's 911 GT1 on the inside being passed by Ramesh's Honda, while Luke B's Honda enters the turn in the background:
O'Brie gets it all wrong with the Viper while Ramesh just manages to stop before hitting him:
Restricted LMP starting grid - The two Mazda 787s of Luke B and Ramesh, my Toyota 88C, Steve's Peugeot 908 HDi FAP, O'Brie's Porsche 956 and Richard's Matra 670B:
Very tight action between O'Brie's Porsche and the Team Bhola Mazdas:
Steve's Peugeot slips by Richard's Matra:
O'Brie's Porsche leads traffic through the second-to-last turn, with Steve's Peugeot and My Toyota following:
Accident on the downhill back straight with my Toyota upside-down in the foreground and Steve's Peugeot partially sideways in the background:
