RACE REPORT #269 - April 25th 2019 (HS, APC, VS6075)
Five drivers took part in our "back-in-time" classes, Historic Saloon, American Pony Car and Vintage Sports '60-'75 and it was a night of plenty action. We decided to run through the first race for each class and, time allowing, do a second race for the classes. We were planning to reduce the race laps down from 60 to 40, but through a mix-up, reduced them to 50 instead and ultimately ran out of time after the first set of races were done.
At the end, having four of our "Scratch Built" no-magnet cars present, we ran the inaugural race for the class, a 10-lapper with the grid based on throttle numbers allocated to the cars. It was great to actually properly see the cars going round, with tails wagging from time to time! We closed up around 11:00pm after a night of fun, some heckling and one or two quickly sorted out disagreements.

Historic Saloon starting grid - another all Capri field, with my car on pole, followed by Ramesh, Steve, O'Brie and Arden in Team Bhola's second Capri:
Four makes were represented in American Pony Car. On pole was Arden in the first Team Bhola Chevy Camaro, followed by my Dodge Challenger, Steve's AMC Javelin, Ramesh's second Team Bhola Camaro and O'Brie driving my Ford Mustang:
Vintage Sports '60-'75 GT grid. Once again, Ramesh's De Tomaso Pantera sits at the front of the pack, followed by O'Brie's beautiful brand-new Ferrari 250 GTO, Steve's Porsche 914/6, my Cobra Roadster driven by Arden and my Cobra Daytona taking the final spot:
We had a lot of close racing action - and resultant accidents - in the VS GT race. Here, Steve's Porsche, O'Brie's GTO and my Cobra Daytona have a big crash going through the Carousel:
O'Brie's GTO is stopped by my upside-down Daytona while Arden's Cobra Roadster goes by on the inside of Foster's corner:
Another crash involving O'Brie's GTO and my Daytona on the Carousel exit:
Fast action as my Daytona exits Foster's with a very sideways O'Brie's GTO in hot pursuit:
You take the high road, I'll take the low. Two Cobras pass one another at different parts of the track:
Arden runs wide and into the Armco exiting the hairpin:
Vintage Sports '60-'75 Prototype has Arden on pole driving Team Bhola's McLaren M8D, followed by Ramesh's Alfa 33/3, my Ferrari 312PB, Steve's Ford GT40 and O'Brie driving Steve's Alfa 33/3:
My Ferrari tucked into the slipstream of Steve's GT40 as we exit the infield left-hander:
All cars are visible here, with Ramesh's Alfa in the foreground and Arden's McLaren in the background, while in-between, O'Brie's Alfa backs off to avoid a crash in progress between Steve's GT40 and my Ferrari:
Another view of the crash:
Our first ever "Scratch Built" class race - placed on the grid based on throttle number - saw Ramesh's Escort Mk II on grid 1, followed by my Triumph TR4A, Steve's Escort Mk I and Arden driving Ramesh's Escort Mk I:
Steve's Escort enters the Carousel:
Two Bhola's Escorts fight for position in the final corner, with Ramesh on the inside in the Mk II and Arden on the outside with the Mk I:
My Triumph going through the second-to-last right-hander:

Great night of racing as usual at FRC.
I really enjoy these classes and it was a bonus to have that impromptu scratch-build class race . My only disappointment was that we didn't have enough time for the scheduled second races in the Historic Saloon and Pony Car classes.
Was nice to see Anthony and David show up although not actually race. Anthony got in some track time with his Rally Class Honda Civic and it seems to be going better with each appearance at FRC.
Congrats to Gordon and Arden on winning Historic Saloon and Vintage Sports (Prototype) classes respectively and to Ramesh on winning everything else.
Congrats to Chevrolet and Dodge on the joint Manufacturers title.
Looking forward to the next event.

My first thought ... even though I wasn’t at this event.
In Vintage Sports, I couldn’t help noticing O'Brie's (bright blue) Ferrari 250 GTO with an impressive debut qualifying 7.316 lap time.
It made me remember my (bright red) Ferrrari 250 GTO “Race Report 58” and interestingly with a kick-off qualifying 7.015 lap time.
Quite sure he (O’Brie) will achieve faster lap times in the near future.
The Escorts & Triumph TR4A slot-cars looked great as well
