RACE REPORT #260 - October 4th 2018 (HS, APC, VS6075)
Our historic races saw seven drivers competing for honours in FRC's Historic Saloon (HS), American Pony Car (APC) and Vintage Sports '60-'75 (VS) classes.
In HS, a single Ford Falcon driven by Steve came up against a plethora of Capris driven by everyone else. A surprise challenger in the person of Peter almost took the overall class win driving one of Steve's Capris, ending up just a single point behind the eventual winner!
The most action took place in the APC class where at times all six cars were lined up behind one-another in the two lanes, lapping like a fast-moving traffic jam. Of course this was not without its inevitable crashes and drivers felt the wrath of our newly-imposed table-length de-slot and drive-through penalty. Strangely enough, the finishing places for all three races were identical.
Being pressed for time, we ran just one 40-lap VS race instead of the usual three 20-lappers. I had joked with Steve that his GT-category pole-sitting Porsche may not have the reliability to complete the 40 laps and this came back to bite me when my Cobra developed a loose pinion early in the race, resulting in my retirement.
Once again things ran pretty late, the last race ending around 1:00 AM, so we really have to look at getting things started earlier in the future.
Results
The Historic Saloon starting grid was almost all Capris, with Ramesh's Capri on pole, my Capri, Steve's Capri driven by Peter, Steve's Falcon and Arden in the second Team Bhola Capri:
Peter's red and white Capri leads mine into the final turn:

He's followed by Steve's Javelin, my Challenger, Ramesh's Camaro, Steve's Mustang Notchback driven by David and my similar Mustang driven by Anthony. Once again, four manufacturers on the grid - Ford, AMC, Dodge and Chevy:
Anthony spins his Mustang on the entry to the Carousel ahead of Steve, David and myself:
Steve, closely followed by Ramesh and myself. There was lots of close Pony Car action like this during the night's races:
Ramesh goes by Anthony at the same corner:
More tight action as my Challenger, David's Mustang, Ramesh's Camaro and Steve's Javelin hustle through Foster's corner:
Ramesh's Camaro closely followed by my Challenger in the second-to-last corner while Anthony's Mustang goes through the Carousel in the background:
Vintage Sports '60-'75 starting grid. Ramesh's Prototype-category McLaren on pole, followed by Arden's Ford GT MkIV in the same category, Steve's Porsche 914/6 having its first race outing, my Cobra Daytona and Steve's Cheetah driven by David, these last three running in the GT category:
