RACE REPORT #254 - June 28th 2018 (HS, APC, VS6075)

Our Historic Saloon, American Pony Car and Vintage Sports '60-'75 classes take us back to the 1960s and early 1970s to replicate one of the greatest eras of racing. Six drivers participated in all nine races over the three classes.

For the first time, digital newcomer Richard brought along his own car, a new Matra MS 670B which he had prepared for the VS6075 prototype category. Unfortunately, although the car ran in practice, the optical sensor was giving some probems so he could not race it. Strangely enough, Steve had the identical problem with another first-time car at FRC, a Porsche 914 prepared for the VS6075 GT category, so he fell back to his trusty Cheetah for the races. O'Brie drove his neat front-motor Corvette L88 in the same class for its racing debut at FRC.

As is most often the case, the fastest cars came from the Team Bhola stable, two of them taking pole spots, one giving Richard his first ever FRC pole. The races though were virtually totally dominated by Team Bhola, the south boys racking up some impressive results.

Great night of racing as usual at FRC.
It was very encouraging seeing the enthusiasm displayed by Richard in chipping his lovely Matra and preparing it for racing In early testing, the car seemed to have quite good pace but the handling appeared to need some sorting. It was later discovered, I'm sure to Richard's great disappointment, that the car was unraceable (is that a word ?) due to an apparent chip issue. I was also similarly disappointed when my new Porsche 914/6 exhibited the same problem. Despite these issues, the racing was as good and exciting as ever, with a little bit of excitement thrown in by some biting ants which were apparently disturbed when the rain started and the awning was being put up.
Congrats to Gordon on winning the Vintage Sports GT class and to Ramesh on winning everything else. Thanks to Anthony and David for showing up and helping out with some marshaling.
Looking forward to the next event.
Steve
