RACE REPORT #249 - Apr 12th 2018 (RC, SC, F1)
Five drivers brought along cars for last evening's Rally Car (RC)/Slot.It Challenge (SC)/Formula 1 (F1) event. For the first time in a while Luke arrived with self-prepared cars, in this case for RC and F1 and they ran quite well, showing great promise for the future. In addition, it was good to see Boo come by and drive my Peugeot 205 in RC. Alex was also present and Peter dropped in on his way home from some late cycling, although neither participated in the driving.
The rally times were close at the top and Steve showed up with an innovative modification to his rally Peugeot 406 in the form of a rear "guide pin" which totally eliminated any sliding! Although the car wasn't as quick as the fastest cars, it certainly can be improved to possibly be unbeatable. While not illegal the way the regs are currently written, this could be considered going down the wrong path and so will be outlawed with an amendment to the regulations before the next event. Kudos to him though for his creative thinking.
During the SC races, there were several instances where my car was sent through the pits because of an errant pit entry lane-changer, totally eliminating my chances. We eventually taped the lane changer shut to prevent this happening. Aside from this it was a very entertaining and enjoyable event.

Thanks guys for a great night of racing and fellowship, . Gordon i know you had a rough night with those lane changes i hope to have you up to speed at our next race, its no fun when anyone have those mishaps, for a car to go into the pit without pressing the lane change button, its good to see Luke T back in action and Boo and Alex visiting.THANKS BYE.

Great night of racing as usual at FRC. The event was particularly enjoyable for a number of reasons, some of which were seeing 'Boo' turn up to race, seeing Mike Lazzari turn up (although not to race) and seeing Luke turn up to race with cars tuned by himself. Mike had a mouth-watering selection of cars and equipment which is in the process of being catalogued for sale. For good measure, Peter and Alex also joined at various parts of the night although neither actually raced.
The racing itself was as tight and exciting as ever. In Rally Class, O'Brie's Porsche 911 showed real potential in early practice but unfortunately, chip problems forced its retirement . As usual, the times with the top runners were very close. I think I could have gotten down to this type of time with my 'ruddered' Peugeot 406 with some more aggressive driving but I didn't want to chance a de-slot as the actual re-slotting of this car may have proven to be a challenge to the marshals ! In Slot.it Challenge, issues with the pit entry lane-change flipper had unfortunate consequences for me in qualifying and worse, for Gordon in the actual Slot.it Challenge races. In F1, the qualifying and racing were as close as ever, with qualifying and race results showing that a well prepared Scalextric car can perform as well as the prototype car (as raced by Gordon).
Congrats to Ram on winning all classes raced and, naturally, taking the event's Champion Driver awards. Congrats also to Luke on his joint Index Of performance victory.
Looking forward to the next event.
