Special Event Ideas

Post by gordon »

Guys, this post is for everyone to put your "special event" ideas out to all FRC drivers for consideration. We have our regular events roughly every two weeks, but now and again its fun to do something different with the way we race. Over the years we've had a number of "different" types of competition, from endurance races to handicap races, a "wet" race, a "devil take the hindmost" race and all sorts of other things in between. Let's see what ideas we all can come up with for something different in our posts below. These could be a full special events or simply different types of races for a regular race night. If you like anyone's idea, feel free to suggest ways you feel can improve it.

I'm going to start with three suggestions:

(A) Dual-Car per Driver: (This can be done on a regular race night for a specific class. We've done it once before for Vintage Sports.)
  1. Three races.
  2. Each driver must drive at least two different, unique-body cars (for the same class) over the three races.
  3. First race grid based on qualifying, remaining grids based on reverse finishing position of previous race.
(B) Mini-Endurance: (This can be done on a regular race night, replacing the regular race night run of three 20 to 25-lap races per class.)
  1. One or two 15-minute races per class.
  2. One driver per car.
(C) Slot.It Challenge Endurance (This will be a "Special Event" and can run in place of a regular event, possibly on a Saturday afternoon/evening.)
  1. 1-hour duration.
  2. For FRC Slot.It Challenge spec cars.
  3. Up to two drivers per car.

I like the special event idea but will need to give it some more thought before making any suggestion(s).
Gordon, I suspect your one-hour endurance race idea (similar to an event held previously) was re-kindled after looking at the 12 Hours of Sebring !

I was thinking it could have been the (up and coming) milestone of 250 FRC events :-)

Other than your 3 suggestions Gordon and the regular 9 FRC classes ...

Here is a list of FRC’s 12 Special Events (over the years) and maybe to help come up with more recommendations - if needed.
  • 01. FRC Endurance Event / GT & LMP Cars
    02. Formula Libre / Non-Open Wheel “Time Bracket Racing” Cars
    03. FRC 100th. Event / Vintage Sports, RGT & Slot It Challenge Cars
    04. FRC Forced-Retirement & Kids Race with LS IROC Cars
    05. FRC Mixed GT (PC, LS & FTC) IROC Cars
    06. FRC Mixed GT (PC, LS & FTC) Teams & F430 “Wet” Challenge IROC Cars
    07. FRC 2-Hours Endurance Event / Vintage Sport Cars
    08. FRC Vintage Sports IROC Cars
    09. FRC 1-Hour Endurance Event / LMP-E & GT-E Cars
    10. FRC Slot.It Challenge / SC-USD Rule Racing Cars
    11. Formula Libre / Handicap Racing Cars
    12. Formula Libre / Non-Magnet Racing Cars
This info was something very easy to do because it’s all recorded by me before ;-)

Maybe we can do the 15 min race(s) with F1 cars.

Good Morning Gordon,

Although (and sorry) I wasn’t present at Thursday 22nd race day - hope the latest form of communication (WhatsApp group of FRC Drivers) did the job for persons at the 249 event .. :?:

However concerning the (Special Event) topic/idea and with our F1 slot-car racing (experience) that’s about 165 laps (at 5.5 seconds per lap) and as much entertainment it could bring ...

How about 50 laps (approx. 5 mins) and included a "Forced-Retirement" competition ..? The F1 Regs could remain the same to determine a winner at the final lap.

This racing activity could even be held at your FRC (up and coming) 250 event.
  • Group B: Rally Car, Slot.It Challenge & Formula 1 / Mixed GT IROC (3 races/stages)
Thinking the event through at 5 mins. a race - it could even be done with the Best Out of 3 racing stages ...

As usual - some early morning thoughts :-)
