Hi Guys,

FRC will be open for practice, testing and racing from 7:30 PM this Thursday (22nd March) for our Group A classes - Historic Saloon (HS), American Pony Car (APC), Vintage Sports '60-'75 (VS6075). We'll run special races for newcomers using FRC's IROC cars if we have at least two new drivers present, so encourage others to come along.

We plan to start at 8:30PM sharp. Here's the usual schedule:
  • Free practice and testing up to 8:30 PM
  • 8:30 PM - Technical Inspection (excluding IROC classes). Cars will be moved to the parc fermé location after they are inspected and comply with the requirements.
  • Qualifying followed by racing. Drivers not ready when called to grid will be replaced by any standby drivers who are ready.
  • Post-race Technical Inspection (if required).
  • After racing - Packing up and liming/old talk (but not too late!).
Key points to pass tech inspection:
  • Historic Saloon - Motor up to 18,000 RPM; USD rule. All magnets must be positioned ahead of centreline of the distance between guide flag pivot point and rear axle; Standard wheels; Angle-winder pods are prohibited; Body width may not exceed 60 mm.
  • American Pony Car - Motor up to 21,500 RPM; USD rule. All magnets must be positioned ahead of centreline of the distance between guide flag pivot point and rear axle; Standard wheels; Front tyre minimum diameter: 17mm on wheel. Rear tyre minimum diameter: 19mm on wheel. 8mm maximum tyre width.
  • Vintage Sports '60-'75 GT - Motor up to 18,000 RPM; USD rule. Magnets must be positioned within 40 mm and forward of the rear axle (this is the forward magnet position on a Slot.It motor pod); Any chassis is allowed. 90gm minimum weight.
  • Vintage Sports '60-'75 Prototype - Motor up to 22,500 RPM; USD rule. Magnets must be positioned within 40 mm and forward of the rear axle (this is the forward magnet position on a Slot.It motor pod); Any chassis is allowed. 77gm minimum weight.
  • All classes that stipulate the USD rule - Cars must drop away from the test block with the block held still (no shaking). Any weight added to the car must be positioned within 2.5" (64mm) and ahead of the rear axle.
Vintage Sports GT and Prototype will be run as a combined class with three races, but with separate results and points. Each category has three reserved grid positions, but if there are fewer than three qualifiers in either category, the extra places may be filled by the other category.

You can see the 2018 class regulations here and the general racing regulations here.

Don't forget to bring along some refreshments.

In real cars, the Imp and the Mini were polar opposites in their layouts. One was rear-engined, rear wheel drive, the other front-engined, front wheel drive. Both were raced very successfully.
