RACE REPORT #247 - Feb 22nd 2018 (RC, SC, F1)

Seven drivers took part in this week's event for rally stages and races for Slot.It Challenge Group C cars and F1 cars. The rally stages were extremely competitive with the top three cars having a three-stage total time difference of just 1.969 sec and the top two just 0.411 sec! Tony had his first experience of no-magnet rallying, actually besting veteran Luke's overall time. The top five Slot.It Challenge cars covered just a 0.513 sec spread with only O'Brie's Mazda being unable to match the pace. The F1 cars were even closer, all six being separated by just 0.469 sec! Needless to say, this all provided some close, exciting rallying and racing.

Great night of racing as usual at FRC. Lovely to have Anthony show up and even take part in the rally competition. It was also a pleasant surprise to see Luke show up to race, although he had earlier indicated that he would not be attending.
The rally competition was ,I think, more close and exciting than ever, and the results bear this out. I was very excited to see the new -format F1 cars in action and was not disappointed. I was quite pleased with the practice and qualifying pace of my Renault F1 car and was hoping for a good race result. Alas, this was not to be as, despite performing very well in the the first race (at one point even leading the race), a lane auto-change into the pits put me a lap down and out of contention. The car was then stricken by electrical gremlins which meant no further racing.
Congrats to Gordon on winning the Slot.it Challenge and F1 classes as well as taking the Champion Driver of the night honours. Congrats also to Ram on taking the Index Of Performance honours.
Looking forward to the next event.

had a great time in spite of the dismal proformance of all of my cars. Lack of preparation is my nemesis i would like to correct one thing on the result post , my Rally car is a Porsche 997 GT3. I am going back to basics with that car as it ran best when I first tried it!!! says a lot about my preparations Congrats to all for a great night!

Opps you were right in the first place My car lost power and Steve graciously lent me his Peugeot. My bad. And thanks Steve and Gordon for the loan of ther cars.

You're welcome O'Brie. I would really like to see that Porsche sorted as , judging by its performance at the previous rally event, it has great potential.

On the forum I did mention I wasn’t attending this 247 event but it so happened - I was talking to Ramesh (on the phone) about some slot-car accessories I needed and thought he may have them available ... Well the rest is history because he suggested it’s best we meet at this FRC event to collect items. It even doubled up collecting another slot-car item because Arden was returning my Slot.It Gear Puller l lent him (a few weeks ago) and he too agreed we meet at FRC ...

However - I decided to reply to Gordon’s (Race Day) text message about my change of heart and sorry I didn’t follow up with my - not showing up - post. So Steve - sorry I surprised you like that

Concerning a Scalextric (slotcar tuning) conversation Mark D. and myself had ... I couldn't remember something about the Scalextric PCR chassis and asked Arden if he remembers the design include a Angle-Winder setup ..? Although his answer was somewhat explained as No ... I still wasn’t convinced and double checked (myself) that not all but most Scalextric PCR Chassis designs has space for the IL, SW and the AW set-ups ...

Mind you - not under estimating his (Arden) tuning “slotcar “ability in the least bit but it just goes to show how there’s way too much slotcar information out there ... for one to try and retain. Even Ramesh with his well known capabilities explained it in is own words - he could fix things with wires but not with wireless connections.

• Recognizing its probably the main (TMI) reason why I’m not too in tune with setting up any of my slotcars.

However - always enjoying the company of all present and must say ... such admirable efforts from Gordon, O’Bire and Steve (even building models from the ground up) with slot-car tuning and racing skills.

I can’t leave out how Tony (and Mark) face looked when I said before the first SC race - that they don’t need to marshal cars (but can still partake) and will be pleasantly surprised how we developed a one yard (3 feet) marshalling method if there are no other persons around

Hope my race night interpretation was enjoyed

One more thing - while writing thoughts about the racing activities ...

I kept remembering how a red Nissan R89C and a McLaren F1 slotcar (on separate occasions) got airborne in some spectacular fashions

• One car even landed on the roof of the Toilet Cubicles and another hitting the concrete Wall of Champions

Lo and behold these same two drivers was explaining to me how very expensive these 1.32 model-cars are

Hi guys , lots of fun as usual i did enjoy the company and competition , congrats to both Gordon and Steve for great close racing, this is what i like , i know Obre will soon have his cars sorted out. Looking forward to our fast class , i will be doing some work on them this wk. see you all soon.
