RACE REPORT #246 - February 1st 2018 (HS, APC, VS6075)

With Ramesh, Arden and Luke unable to attend, a small group of five drivers took part in our Historic Saloon, American Pony Car and Vintage Sports '60-'75 races. Despite this (or maybe because of it), there was a relaxed atmosphere, probably as everyone felt less pressured to keep up with the flying South boys! I revealed my "secret" Christmas gift car and awarded Steve a small prize of a set of Paul Gage urethane pony car tyres for correctly gessing its identity on the FRC forum. All-in-all, it was the usual enjoyable night of racing at FRC.

Based on a forum suggestion by Steve, we decided to try something new for the Historic Saloon races. The first race grid was based on qualifying times, while the second and third race grids were based on the reverse finishing positions of the preceeding race. This made for some exciting racing, as it reduced the on-track position difference of the cars, the faster ones having to find their way through the slower cars ahead.

American Pony Car starting grid. My brand new Dodge Challenger made its debut with a pole. Behind are Steve's Javelin, O'Brie's Camaro and Alex's Mustang. That's four different manufacturers on the grid - Dodge, AMC, Chevy and Ford:

Vintage Sports '60-'75 starting grid. For the first time the class was divided into Prototype and GT categories, with both running concurrently in the same races. O'Brie's Ford GT Mk IV is on pole, the only car in the Prototype category, while my Daytona Cobra and Steve's Cheetah complete the small field, both in the GT category:

Hi all,
I wrote a response earlier to this race report but I'm not seeing it now (have to wonder whether I pressed the 'submit' button)and I'm not about to re-write it. In point form, here is a summary:
-Great night of racing as usual at FRC.
-Nice to see Peter and Alex show up and race (even if for one and two races respectively).
-Gordon finally put us out of our suspense when he revealed his lovely Dodge Challenger.
-I like the reverse-grid system as used for the Historic Saloon class.
-New GT sub-group within the Vintage Sports class was great fun. Gordon and I had some enjoyable dices on track.
-O'Brie showed off a lovely Corvette Stingray (L88 model) for the above class but chose to race in the Prototype sub-group instead.
-Congrats to all the event's winners.
Looking forward to the next event.
Steve
