New event type suggestion

Hi Guys,

How about this for an upcoming event:
  • Event type: No-Contact Endurance. Drive-throughs will be penalized by a 15-second timed stop-and-go in the pits.
  • Race length: 15 minutes (40-lap races normally take about 5-6 minutes).
  • Eligible cars: Endurance cars from the '60s including the following:
    • Scalextric Ford GT40 (not the modern Ford GT) - lots here.
    • Scalextric Ferrari 330 P4 - lots here.
    • Scalextric Ferrari 250 GTO
    • Scalextric Chaparral 2F
    • All cars eligible for the Vintage Sports class (be sure to read their class regs).
  • The Scalextric cars listed must be standard (aside from chipping), however tyres may be trued.
That's the basic idea. All races for the event will use this format. What are your thoughts?

Gordon

Sounds interesting and would be fun. 15 minutes is a long time for 1 stint though so maybe you could consider a team type event where (similar to endurance event last year) where there could be driver changes.
On another note, not having raced too often myself, but having observed quite a number of races, it appears that the racing is more enjoyable when there are marshalls posted at the corners than when drivers have to re-slot their own cars and 'do the run'. Could we consider having all drivers present at an event (providing that there are enough present) marshall at least 1 race in each class being run ? Maybe come up with some sort of incentive points system for number of races marshalled ?

Dear Gordon,

This new type of racing not to mention "I ThinK" it's the 10th FRC class 8-) sounds like a well controlled racing environment.

I remembered sometime ago, you were talking to me about this new GT40 class you wanted to have.

I can also tell, you thought it over well and I have to say - it sounds well structured...

One :?: - What RPM Motors..?

FRC's last race event was very enjoyable and sorry I left before time. I felt very tired and was literally running on fumes. If it wasn't for other guys marshalling, I may have left much earlier... The presence of marshals is a great service & it adds to the enjoyment and the smooth running of the races. So all you hasty drivers do your best too appreciate the work being done on your CRASHED car so you dont have to marshal it your own self..!

Now that sounds like a good win win incentive...

Blessings,

Luke

It does sound like a new class, but what I'm actually toying with is incorporating these Scalextric cars into the Vintage Sports class. This will give those who own the Scaley cars a place to race them. Because there already is a bit of a performance discrepancy between cars in the VS class, adding these should not make any difference. Also, by having longer races and stiffer penalties, drivers of the slightly less-competitive cars will have a chance for victory as long as they are not de-slotting too much.

The standard motors.

I agree with having marshals. Remember, we only instituted the "table run" rule to have some system in place for when there are not enough people available for marshaling. Going forward, we will only enforce "table running" if there aren't enough marshals available. That being said we need to be sure that both the drivers and marshals know the marshaling guidelines:
  • In a multi-car crash, cars should be re-slotted one at a time, frontmost car first (ideally).
  • Cars should always be re-slotted as close as possible (following the track) to where they were de-slotted.
  • Drivers must not shout at or criticize the marshals.
  • (... any others you may think of)
