RACE REPORT #240 - August 10th 2017 (HS, APC, VS6075)
Five drivers took to the FRC circuit during last night's races for our "back in time" classes, Historic Saloon, American Pony Car and Vintage Sports '60-'75. As we refine the class regulations, racing is becoming closer than ever and last night these great period classes were no exception. Because of the low-magnet stipulations, these are our slowest non-IROC racing classes and this requires drivers to be very focused and controlled to go quickly yet stay in the slot. Getting a high finishing place is dependant on the fewest de-slots possible and so it was last night, when an error would take you from first to last in a flash.
It was also nice to welcome FRC newcomer Wayne Hutchinson who had previously last driven slot cars at around the age of fifteen, many years ago. He got his feet wet in the digital world driving two of FRC's Porsche Cup 997s and by the time he stopped when racing got started, he had improved significantly after his first tentative laps. He even did a standard 3-lap "qualifying" run to get some times. Hopefully we'll be seeing a lot more of Wayne at FRC.
