RACE REPORT #236 - July 20th 2017 (MP, RGT, RLMP)

With the discontinuance of our American Muscle, GT and LMP classes, we raced our new fastest classes Modified Production, Restricted GT and the brand new Restricted LMP class at last evening's FRC event. A total of seven drivers took part and the on-track competition and action was hectic. It was good to see Alex drop by and get some driving done in RGT with a loaner car from Ramesh, in the process showing that he hasn't lost a bit of his driving talent. Luke joined him with Ramesh loaners for all three classes and also showed that he could be very quick with competitive cars. Even O'Brie resorted to using one of Ramesh's cars for the final MP race and did well to finish third from a last place start, despite the fast competition. Peter just drove in the three MP races, but his Zakspeed Capri was a bit slower than most of its competitors. It was great having him present, as always.

RGT action saw (foreground to background) Luke's Porsche, Ramesh's McLaren, Steve's Porsche and O'Brie's Porsche have a coming-together which took out a section of Armco barrier in the Carousel. All six cars in the race are visible with my Viper exiting Fosters corner and Alex's blue Porsche heading towards the last corner:

The close racing saw another RGT incident at the exit of Fosters involving (front to back) Steve's Porsche, Luke's Porsche, my Viper and O'Brie's Porsche, while Alex's Porsche again heads towards the final corner in the background:

For the final RGT race, Ramesh choose to run a different (yellow) McLaren and therefore had to start at the back of the grid:

Congratulations to the winners!

Next event's classes: Class grouping A - Historic Saloon (HS), American Pony Car (APC), Vintage Sports '60-'75 (VS6075) / Mini Challenge (MC) IROC (3 races).

As usual, don't forget to see the updated fastest times for the FRC classes to know what the benchmarks are for your cars, the updated class average qualifying times and the updated fastest times for 2017.

See you on the circuit...
Gordon

Great night of racing as usual, despite the mechanical/electrical woes apparently suffered by all except Team Bhola. Some of these were Gordon's Viper slowing down due to, I believe, some out of place interior bodywork, O'Brie's Impreza (don't know what the problem was) and my BMW M3 which, although running very well could not be raced due to not changing lane. This was replaced by my Escort Mk 2 which, while also running well in practice, suffered gear mesh issues during the race.
Really enjoyed the new LMP class (Restricted LMP) much more than the previous unlimited iteration.
Nice to see Luke and his daughter Bethany. Congrats to Bethany on her recent SEA success !! Nice also to see Alex after a bit of an absence.
Looking forward to the next event.
Steve

Hello all,

I'm so glad a promise was made by me ... that I won't go anywhere (even back home) until the night's 236 racing event was completed ... which can be reviewed from Gordon's informative reporting with the new FRC racing (once very fast AM, GT & LMP cars) format of the MP, RGT and "spanking new" RLMP classes.

In case anyone wondered - I had know idea I was going to be sponsored (as much as) 3 of Ramesh's tuned slotcars because had plans on setting-up 3 of my Scalextric cars ... The Opel Astra, Corvette C6R and Cadillac Northstar LMP models.

Well ... the rest is history cause all I did was list these cars of mine because every time I tried to make an effort at my slotcar tuning table (at least with one car) things just changed having to do something else more important for my parents ~ using up a considerable amount of time.

Mind you - most of you'll know about this with me and I'm not complaining because it is what it is caring lovingly for one's parents. I remember once told - how at my age it's a blessing to have your parents (Mother and Father) alive!

Also, must mention the pleasure of having a few test laps with Gordon's 2 prized RGT slot-cars. Sorry I put a bit of damage on the Dodge Viper before competition.

Anyway - at this event we all had a BLAST and we know Arden plus David aka boo (who I was both in touch with) would have surely added even more to the grand fellowship, racing thrills and laughter.

On the way home Bethany described to me (and even though she wasn't racing) how she enjoyed seeing us all have a great time racing and making jokes. Also how Alex laughs the loudest. I said to her - if boo was around he laughs even louder and glad you enjoyed.

Great comments Luke. I'm glad that Bethany enjoyed the night and love her observation of Alex laughing the loudest!
