Proposal for racing procedure change

Hi all,
in recent times, when there has been a lack (or absence) of track marshals, we have adopted a procedure whereby if a car de-slots, the de-slotted driver calls 'track' and all drivers immediately come to a stop. The de-slotted car is ten re-slotted and the race continues after a command by driver of the now re-slotted car. This system has been working fairly well but, as brought up by Alex last night, it does not allow much opportunity for a slower car to do well in a race. The reason is that the faster car/driver combinations would qualify at the front of the grid and when the race starts, barring some sort of mechanical failure, would naturally stay in front due to their speed. If such a car/driver de-slots, instead of the following, slower cars having an opportunity to make up ground and possibly passing the stricken car, they have to wait behind until he is re-slotted and then all re-start together. Again, the faster cars will pull away from the slower ones .
I would like to propose a change to the current procedure to avoid this. My suggestion is as follows:
-When a car de-slots, the driver of the de-slotted car calls 'track' and all cars come to a stop (same as currently applies)
-The de-slotted car is now replaced on the track at the back of the last car that is on the same portion of the track, in this case, 'portion of the track' meaning the track from the location of the de-slot BACK towards the start/finish line, in such a way that no advantage is gained.
-The race will re-start in the current manner.
If this is adopted, I think it would give the drivers of slower but possibly more stable cars a fighting chance of race victory.
What are your thoughts ?

Plan sounds like it's not going to take much effort with a single car crash but I am thinking it will be somewhat difficult with multiple cars ... I believe Steve, that race setting you (or anyone else) will enjoy with maybe a slower but stable car will only work well when marshals are around the track. I am saying this because I benefitted much, plus being in the ideal lane when crashes took place in front and around me (mind you not forgetting - with a Ramesh's built car) in VS class when Dion and Alex were marshaling - far less if there were 2 or 3 more marshals.

How we race when there are no marshals - to me is just a quick fix or easy remedy for a solution and it can only go so far ...

Now - I may stand corrected but that's just my belief.

Perhaps we can do what Steve has suggested for a single car de-slot. Remember, its not only the quickest cars that de-slot. In fact, someone at the rear may actually be pushing a little more on the edge trying to catch up and is then more likely to de-slot, so this procedure change can affect fast and slow cars equally.

I say we give it a try for single car de-slots.

Gordon,

Now may be a great time to try Yellow flag.
Drive slow until the person who is deslotted, slot back in and say go. If you are behind the slotted car SORRY.

It depends on were you slot back in the person remember the start line and then the speed of that cars.
Caution yellow flag will be. Better i think.

Hey Arden :!:

You sure have lots of work going on and I can't imagine how exhausted you must feel by the end of the day?

All the same - been a long time you haven't posted anything and already your yellow flag game plan sounding useful.

Only thing though - how is it going to be put into effect?

Just had a chat with Ramesh on the phone and he made a suggestion which I believe makes the most sense. While he agrees with the concept of the penalty, he feels that the de-slotted car should be moved back a fixed distance rather than to the back of the field. He suggested that this distance be a given number of track pieces, making up the average length of say 6 straights. If this distance takes the car back before the starting line, the car should be placed just after the starting line (so as not to gain an extra lap).

I believe that this is fairer as the car that de-slots may have been dicing closely with one or more others at the front of the race and should not be penalised to the extent that it is placed at the back of everyone else.

I think the idea of a fixed distance penalty is workable. We would just need to determine just what that distance should be so that it really is a penalty.
