RACE REPORT #356 - March 28th 2026 (RCnm, KBnm)

After having had some very mysterious and strange things happening with the SSDC computer software over the past several weeks where very unrealistic lap times suddenly kept showing up, we were able to finally sort it out, a Powerbase firmware update finally solving the problem. We therefore couldn't wait to do some racing again and decided to run our scheduled Rally event, adding a three race Kitbash session directly after the rally stages.

As always for our rally events, Ram was in attendance and we were pleasantly surprised when Luke also turned up, having not seen him at FRC for a few months. He took part in all the rally stages before leaving. We ran the usual three of these stages, each of with some close action as well as the unwanted car de-slots for some drivers, myself included. Following the rally, the three thirty lap Kitbash races provided a lot of racing excitement for all drivers present. One of these was Liam, who had very recently suffered a bad sport cycling accident and it was quite amazing to have him present and driving in two of the three Kitbash races. In circumstances like this, it certainly helps to have youth on your side!

We ended with a final boardroom meting before packing up and heading to our respective abodes.

Gordon ... a fast & neat Race Report as usual :!:

It was great to see you guys since my last (RD352 / Dec. 2025) visit, and such a very warm and heartfelt welcome (RD356) March 2026 ...

Although I only stayed for the thrilling Rally Car class (thanks to Ram for the sponsored 406 Peugeot) and from the report ...

The Kit Bash class looked like it was a Blast  8-)

That said ...

Enjoyed the overall company and (plus a quick recovery to Liam) will organize my own and personally tuned Rally Car model for the next event.

On a separate note ...

Could I suggest the 3 names (podium drivers) be included with Computer Kitbash race 1, 2 & 3 results car pics ...

I believe it well help others understanding, the general KB driver results :D

Great event as usual at FRC, especially seeing Liam after his horrific cycling accident !
I was really looking forward to this Rally Class event, this made even more so by the inclusion of the Kitbash Class. I was hoping to run my somewhat reconfigured Peugeot 406 in Rally Class as initial testing had suggested that it would be quite competitive. Murphy however had other plans and I just could not get it to work at all. I had to resort to my old Impreza WRC which has served me very well in the past but even this seemed down on performance, acheiving a best lap time of a bit over 8.4 seconds. This car has done sub 8 seconds already and previously would comfortably lap in the 8.2 seconds repeatedly and effortlessly. A few de-slots thrown into the mix didn't help the cause ! Kitbash was the usual blast and I was quite pleased with the performance of my (actually Jono's) 3rd Generation RX7 scratchbuilt car in racing conditions. Although this car made an appearance at the last Kitbash event, no formal races were run then due to the timing problems being experienced so this was its actual formal racing debut. I only ran it in one race as I had decided previously to race a different car in each race. As mentioned previously, one of the most enjoyable aspects of the hobby for me is the building and preparation of cars . Having more than one car in a class is also beneficial in that in the event of a problem with a car, one can resort to another one as I had to do with my Impreza in Rally Class, even though testing had suggested that its times weren't up to par.
Congrats to Peter and Gordon for winning Rally and Kitbash respectively and to Ram for taking the overall event honours and Index Of Performance accolades.
Looking forward to the next event !

Glad you enjoyed it. That's a good suggestion. I have several standard formats for the different types of events that we do at FRC, so I'll have to modify all that this will apply to.
